Most of you guys know this…but apparently not all
When it comes to booking DJs, there are certain rules we all have to abide by. Confirming a DJ before announce him is only 1/4 battle; Controlling here say is the other 3/4. If a DJ is booked at a "major event" (Spundae, Giant, or a Rave), the promoter is given ample time to market and promote the event. The flip side to this coin is "SPECIAL EVENTS." Let’s take Monday Social for example. If a DJ is spinning at “major event” on Saturday, and he is booked to play Monday Social, the booking is contingent on a limited promotion time, and silence until an agreed upon time. (NOT UNTIL AFTER THE “MAJOR EVENT”) Thus the guest DJ is not announced until Sunday or Monday. This protects the “exclusivity” of the original contract, and does not dilute the previous promotion.
Here is my point . . . If you happen to hear that a DJ may be spinning at a “special event” and the promoter of the event has not announced it . . . It’s for a reason . . . SO KEEP YOU ING MOUTH SHUT!!! Posting the news on a message board (any message board) or emailing your friends about it, no matter how honorable your intentions are, can have major repercussions against the event and the promoter of the “special event.” If the promoter of the “major event” feels threatened, he can take legal action against all parties involved due to a violation of the “exclusivity” clause contained in 99% of all DJ contracts, and sue for 100% of the booking fee.
I know it feels cool to know about inside information, but if you are told something, or even overhear it, don’t be that .

i didnt get your post at all until the last sentance. i see what you mean, but then again if the dj signs an exclusivity cause for a certain weekend then surely if you booking them for a special event within the timescale of that clause then your the one breaking the clause and you/the dj deserved to be fined anyway.
basically, if you tread a leagality tightrope, dont expect to not fall off. |

Ok, I just finished talking to the head promoter at Trance Clube @ Heaven and he just told me... for June he is going to get Rank 1... I had to change my pants after he told me that... then he goes on to tell me, that if Blank & Jones gets their Visa issues worked out, they would be here in July. Then he said he wants to bring M.I.K.E. later in the summer in hopes that his name will be more recognizable by then (recognition for Americans, naturally). I don't think L.A. has ever had such a good promoter! This guy is actually from Holland(go figure right, i mean what american would know how to get such good talent) and knows a lot of the Dj managers so thats how he gets hooked up. I.E. Thrillseekers, Cor, and Ton T.B.! Next week is Bossi from Cosmic Gate, and my god who knows from there! L.A. has got a new friday night and i am more than excited!
might I add... its about damn time!
