ok, i love trance and want to be a part of it now instead of just listen to it. i have a few basic questions tho.

if i get turntables i can only play what others have already made right?

if i want to make my own music want are some basic hardware things i would need?

is it best to learn how to DJ and then produce my own songs? or does that matter? thanks!

First question: yes
second question: a computer with alot of softsynths and music production programs (fruity loops, reason, absynth, protools, cuebase)
Thrid question: yes, start DJing first, get the hang of that and see how much you really get into it. if you think it is your thing, then start trying your hand at producing. but dont let anyone fool you, DJing is expensive and producing will cost you a whole lot more.

you can make songs by moving the vinyl and it goes like WIKKI WIKKI

I'm sorry but thats a really dumb question...turntables don't make music, they play it.

Sorry if my post came off kinda harsh...what I meant by it is that you should think about questions when you ask them, I'm sure if you thought about that one you could have answered it yourself. Yeah, we all ask dumb questions at some point...it's cool that you're interested in getting into DJ'ing and producing. My advice is make sure you have a lot of money ready to be invested. DJ'ing/producing can get expensive but in the end it's worth it.

1. In theory yes, a turntable is for playing others music. The reality is different. Whilst you are playing back others music you can do many different things with them and practically create new music if you are clever enough with them.

2. You don't actually need hardware to make music. It can all be done with software but the choice is yours. You can often get free demos of this software. Try fruity loops for example (Keeping in mind that once you get to a certain stage you will need to add things to it though).

3. I would be inclined to say the other way around to most people as music knowledge will always make you a better DJ. But then if you are making dance music it's also good to know what makes people move. Nothing wrong with doing both and they do help each other. But pick one to start off with as they both have steep learning curves.

Whatever you do, make sure you enjoy it and remember that's the reason why you started.

Cheers
