Is this a lie, or a good offer?!

I got the following offer... please tell me whether I should go for it, or whether you think it's a scam. (I want to get into DJ'ing but not big-time, at least not yet, so I don't want to make any huge investments. This is just a personal hobby that I want to pursue, nothing professional or stable.)

i got a numark TT 1510 and a numark TT 1700, both belt driven tables, both with Sure cartridges, numark slipmats, a numark DM905 mixer, 2 numark self-powered monitor speakers, and i'll even throw in a vinal and some numark headphones, all for 200 bucks. I haven't had the entire set for more than 2 months. everything is in BRAND NEW condition. it's way more quality than the price i'm asking. if u want a pic or have any questions just let me know

thanks! |

For $200, why not? Okay, it's all , but would cost you way way more than $200 if you were to buy it all separately. It will give you a chance to see if you enjoy DJing without spending too much cash straight away.
But, do upgrade to some better tables as soon as you can raise the cash! The mixer can wait, the tables cannot. |

dammit
everybody's always bashing belt driven turntables.
i own those numark TT 1700's and they work super for me
have also mixed at a friend's place with the "supreme" technics (sl 1200)and the only practical differences i can feel are
1) the pitch sliders reacts different (can't really explain, not like one is better than the other...numark is +-10%....is technics perhaps 8%? didn't remember)
2) the technics' platter has more torque when you press the start butn (which i don't give a rats ass about cuz the platter keeps spinnin the whole set long)
3) when you cut the power on a TT1700, the record peeuw-stops, when you cut the power on a technics the record peeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuwwwwwwwwwwwwww-stops.
which is not enough reason for me to switch to the supreme decks.
i've heard things like "when you hold back a record with belt driven decks sometimes the platter entirely stops"------------>
No it doesn't! that's what a damn slipmat is for |

Pjotr G....then you are one of the only people I have ever heard of that can stand using a belt driven talbe to mix with.
First off, a belt driven table does not hold the pitch nearly as good as a tech 1200 can. The torque is one of the most important things when concerning yourself with turntables...belt driven ones vary in torque...meaning it doesn't hold it!
Bottom line, belt driven tables suck...they are meant for playing single records.
Starting with belt driven tables would make you go insane trying to beatmatch rather than making you happy, which is what tech 1200's will do! :)
Even if you don't want to pursue spinning after a little bit....you can always sell off your tech's for just as much (if not more) than what you paid for them!

Belt driven turntables are fine if you know how to use them properly.
I have belt-driven TT's, and although they are obviously not as good as DD tables you can still use them to very good effect. They do stop most of the time when you hold the vinyl, but you just simply spin the record with your hand to get it up to speed which is probably quicker than God himself (aka 1200) could do it. They may well lose their pitch slightly, but it is rarely noticable and you can compensate for this in the mix if you have a bit of skill.
I started off mixing with mp3's, which I did for about 2 years before getting my real TT's last month. The switch from mp3-vinyl was almost instantaneous, because I knew all of the basics (and hopefully a bit more than that) of beatmatching and mixing.
The moral of the story is, if you have never spun before at all, and don't know anything, then it probably will be a lot easier to learn on DD decks. However, if you have a fair bit of experience with mixing then BD decks aren't so bad. They are there for us poor students who can't afford Techs!
