cdj skipping

Hey guys,

Something weird is going on with my Pioneer 500's. Lately, whenever I get to the last song or two of a cd, it starts skipping like it would if the cd was really scratched up, except that there are no scratches and it does this for almost every cd. This is very frustrating and scary, since I don't want anything bad to happen to my cdj's. Can anybody please help me with some way I can solve this problem? :nervous:

Thanks. :(

have you tried cleaning the lens on your cd players?

I used to own a pair of these too and I also had this problem. I found that it only occured with the latter tracks on burned CDs. If you tilt the deck while its playing the track, it actually fixes the skipping, but pretty impractical. Try to use burned CDs with too many tracks and try to use higher quality CDs (none of that no-name brand stuff). It helps alleviate the problem.

I think that you mean without too many tracks, but this is good advice. Thanks

Also, is there any special method/equipment to cleaning the lens?

ahah yeah sorry thats what I meant. I used those generic CD cleaners to clean. Like the CD with the lil pieces of cloth sticking out on the reading surface.

I remember my old playstation having trouble reading certain CD-Rs(music was skipping, movies were skipping etc). I fixed it tho by getting some info off the net about increasing the lens's reading power by turning a regulator screw(which powered the lens) Problem was solved:D

Could be a mis-aligned laser
Usually under $50 to get re-aligned.
Could be the laser is starting to die, lasers can be replaced, but it's a bit more money. Somewhere around the $150 - $200 range.

First try cleaning the lens and your discs before resorting to taking it in....
