Spy Ware

| I hate to start a thread on here about Spy Ware, but a friend of mine is having troubles with her computer with pop ups. The thing is, when she tries any programs out there, like spybot or ad-aware, it usually screws up her computer, so she insists on a website or something with a tutorial on how to remove spy ware manually from the computer. If you guys know any websites or anything to help out, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance, and check out the flame thread, lots of fun fun fun, its a celebration bitches! |

OK this might not work but she could give it a try...i used to have a little problem with pop-ups.
Go to Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs.
Look for any suspicious files, usually they are quite small, and remove them if you are 100% sure that they shouldn't be there.
If you want to check, and I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU DO THIS BEFORE DELETING, go to google and type in the filename. It will usually come up with many results about "how to remove such-and-such program"
If it shows that the file is a baddie, use the add or remove function to get rid of it. Soemtimes they may come back, but its worth a try, anyway.

its specifically for browswer spyware, but usefull too :) |

This was helpfull for me though...I Kept geting the Same dam POP up

| Sometimes could also be programs runing in the background that even if you use add and remove they stay there, so edit the registry, Local machine, microsoft, run and look for anything suspicious, (before you do this make a backup just to be sure) that solved my restarting probs.... |

eh adaware would remove it, but you said it screws her comp up
you could also use msconfig and check if there are any extraneous startup things
also if you are experienced, use the task manager to end unneccessary processes |

Um....
I used Bazooka Spyware Detection on my sisters computer because she was having big problems with popups. Bazooka searches your regkey for suspicious files and entries. But you manually have to get rid of it. When the program detects the stuff, you click on a link and it takes you to their website with directions on how to remove the spyware. Sometimes you would get rid of it, but it will still pop up in the program, probably because of residue from the spyware, but the residue isnt enough to make the popups reappear. So far so good with my sisters computer. :toothless |

Yeah this was the method I was told to do manually along time ago, she installed the kazaa regular, and somewhere was listed how to specifically remove the spyware involved with kazaa. I just wish I had saved it before. Thanks, though if you could tell me exactly how to do this process in a more detailed way, I'm sure I could figure this out. |

| I'd try to figure out why adaware and spybot screw her computer up. This could be because she has too many unneeded programs running and hogging resources, not leaving enough for spybot. So figure this out first then install spybot AND adaware and run both regularly. You may also want to install SpywareBlaster... its like the "immunize" function in spybot, but much better. |
