What is a good (semi-)professional soundcard for games? ( How good are the E-mu soundcards for games for example )
Subtle
Terratec DMX 6 Fire ;)
Vizay
no descent soundcard will be good for games because all descent soundcards use ASIO-drivers...games will need a different type of drivers wich does other things and so on...

I suggest you get one card for producing and a sb live 5.1 for games :)
won't cost ya many extra $

The Audigy 2 series has ASIO drivers and is very good for games.

Oh
I forgot to say
Stick away from creative as far as you can.
Unless the gaming part is more important than producing you're gonna regret it.

I use an Audigy 2 (not by choice, it was a gift,) and find it fairly sufficient for production. I'm pretty sure, if I remember correctly, that Airbase uses one as well.

edit: said Airwave, meant Airbase :)

I just mean their are much better cards at the price..
Look at the specs of the dmx 6 fire and compare them to audigy and you'll see. + the fixed 48000 really is a pain if you're into digital recording/playback. It works limiting and with producing you don't want to be limited.

Very true. I had never looked at the DMX 6 Fire before, but it does appear to be a much better card for the price. I still find the Audigy sufficient for my needs right now as I am working purely with software.

That's what I tried to say hehe,
it 'll do the job but there are better alternatives at the price.
Creative has more money for marketing I guess.

It depends if your gonna be using hardware or soft synths.

tell me the difference?
except for the fixed sample rate and the number of in/outs I can't see the difference between a hw based or sw based studio.
