That is the dumbest argument I've ever heard. Funny how you've had longer time to play and are still second to us. Just because you say "we own, you suck" doesn't make it so. Salt Lake 2002, WHC 2004 and 2003, and we'll add the World Cup of Hockey soon enough. And you still haven't responded to our comments about us not being able to send NHLers to the Olympics until 1998. You just like to ignore that fact and say that you've played hockey longer therefore you're better. Good argument. At least you play hockey better than you debate... just barely though.
Enjoy 2nd-16th place at the World Cup, because 1st is ours :toocool: |

HAH!
Canada won the world's this year with its second string line-up (at best), beating out a team with Alfredsson, Forsberg, Lidstrom, etc on it. Where were the Russkies?
Side note: What do you Canadians think of our world cup roster?
IMO although our defensive picks (foote, blake, regehr, brewer, jovo, pronger, redden, niedermayer) and goaltending are perfect, I think the forward picks are pretty lacking.
Forwards are : lemieux, yzerman, sakic, iginla, draper, maltby, brad richards, marleau, smyth, st. louis, gagne, heatly, thorton, shane doan, brenden morrow.
Honestly, what was going on here!? Lemieux and Yzerman are both old and injured, probably not wise picks. Where the heck is Primeau and Lecavalier? Instead they take Gagne and Morrow!? No Rick Nash? Other notables left off were Recchi, Kariya, Tanguay and Bertuzzi.
What do you guys think? |

As Canada should be #1 in hockey. Canadians love hockey more than anyone else in the world, and they deserve good showings at world hockey events, and pressure on them is higher than on most other countries ...
However, the two things that really PISS me off and bugg me are:
1972 Summit Series were waaaay overhyped by Canadians. So what they beat Russians in that senseless event? Soviets dominated hockey in that decade, and the fact that Canada managed to beat Soviet only 2 or 3 times in that decade shouldn't have been so hyped up for years to come. No team can win forever.
"The Miracle". So what the States beat the Soviets in 1980 Olympics on THEIR OWN soil? Upsets happen often - take the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics for example, when #8 Belarus beat #1 Sweden in quarterfinals for its best showing EVER AT ANY INTERNATIONAL HOCKEY TOURNAMENT (probably the only good one anyway, no offense to any Belorussians)???? NOW THAT'S A MIRACLE! By the way, how many people have heard of THAT upset by Belarus? I dont think many even heard of that huge upset. Leading up to that Soviet loss, they won 4 of the 5 or so previous olympics hockey gold, and they once again dominated in the 80s/early 90s. What was that fuss all about? If you lose once, and win 8 or so olympic gold medals - does that mean that you have to be humiliated on TV for the ONE loss?? |

No the 1972 series was supposed to be a cakewalk for team Canada, who had a ton of hall of famers. The russians beat our asses at times, and Canada thought we can't lose. It was back at the height of the Cold War as well, so it meant more. Even back then, it showed that Canadians show up when the title is on the line. I mean they sucked it up and grinded that out.
I mean 1987's world cup was really no fair to the commies tho, if you think about it, they had no players with any skill near the lineup that we fielded..lmao
Think about a forward line of Wayne Gretzky in his prime, Mario Lemieux just near his prime and who cares who the winger was.
The poor russians with their diving ovenckin (gutless bastard with no heart, typical probably be a 30 goal scorer and do nada in the playoffs...like most europeans).
Look at this year's playoffs here, both teams led by Canadian stars sucking it up Ignila, LeClavier, and St.Louis and Richards, all cdn btw :P.....or last year...led by stevens, nidermayer and brodeur vs. Kariya and Gugierre (all CDN!). I could go on and on, you know it will come down to the World Cup Best of 3 finals with Canada vs. USA and as usual, the yanks going home crying. We rule at hockey, think our second rate lineup beat the top swedish lineup at the worlds, think what all the best players will do. The lineup for the world cup for Canada looks scary as heck....actually it is beyond scary....it is nightmarish. Think about this, your top defenceman are all the top players in the league with the exception of Niklas Lindstorm. Blake, Jovo, Pronger, Nidermayer, just rediculous and in goal...lmao....why worry...backed up by the best goalie in the NHL, brodeur (well Roy retired :() and the forward line..oh my word...richards, ignila, st.louis and we even left out leclavier, rick nash (42 goals)....what a talent pool we got. |

Of course Canadians are going to dominate, no one in the US gives a about hockey. ;)
Kids in the US dream of playing in the MLB, not the NHL. |

ofcourse goalies dont count right? i mean conveninently leaving bulin out :) also lecavalier? come on in the finals he was INVISIBLE.
Btw there are somthing like 60% Canadians in the NHL ofcourse most teams will have them.
But in all fairness Canada is better right now and will win the World cup, esp with the mess Russia is in right now - half the team don't want to play in the World Cup including Khabibulin, Nabokov, Fedorov, Kovalchuk. Oh yeah 8th place here we come! :) |

Are you SERIOUS???? This is gonna suck go badly ... Dont those players earn enough money to give back something to the country that taught them the skills of the trade?!? Shame on them, shame!!! :whip: I know Canada is gonna win, but I want Russia to win at least a Bronze, like in the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics ... they did fine there.
I was very pleased to watch the all-Russian women French Open final, by the way ;-) |

yeah its got to do wit tikhonov still being in the coaching set-up. khabibulin hates him after 1992 when tikhonov took his olympic medal for himself. nabokov i think said he wasnt really interested, fedorov hates tikhonov from before the time of the wall, and kovalchuk just got pissed off by him at this years world cup.
yeah that was a sweet final, something to remember this summer by.. god knows im not expecting much from soccer, hockey, or olympic (oh they actually might be alright) teams |

So much for Tikhonov being the most successful coach of international hockey ... No wonder why he got replaced by, what's his name (dlinnoye i trudnoye imya). I am surprised to hear from you that he is still with the team though .... |
