How have your record purchases changed?

When I first started out I used to buy not only junk music (coz everything sounded nice in the store), but also even the good tunes I bought were very similar sounding.

Recently I realise my tune genres are getting more diversified. I have been inclined to make a few interesting prog n techno purchases.

What about the rest of you guys have your purchasing habits changed alot since starting out..?

Less and better.

Instead of buying 10 crap records in the past, I now buy 5 good ones.

After a while you grow your own style, you get to know more and more artists and labels that put out stuff you like, etc...

All that contributes to the changing of your purchasing habits...

in the space of 2 years my purchases have changed completely..

i started off buying lots of trance/hard trance, and a lot of prog, with breaks, and the rest on the side.

now i buy lots of techno.

As I have only started some time ago I have so far only got me the "token tracks", you know, the stuff everyone has and plays.

Now that I'm starting to get them out of the way I have started seeking a bit more obscure tracks from both hard(er) trance and prog (well okay, maybe not "prog" as such but more mellow tracks anyway), not the usual uplifting fluff. You can't play an entire set consisting only of peak time trancers, now can you... :)

Same here. I can actually see it shifting from all the classic stuff to a bit more variation. Developing my own style and so on. It's fun to see where it goes?

yeah ive been throwing in breaks into my usual sets now its really fun (been throwing in 'the green martian - computer weekend' in alot). its great to experiment, and my selection has definitely changed from 10 so-so records to 2-5 good ones. (although record shopping is tough in thailand)

i just imagine a set I want to play and think of the type of track I want for it. Then I dig through for a vinyl that fills it. For a while I was looking for good tracks to start sets out with, I have a few, then I was looking for nice hard tracks to keep the energy going, got a couple....then some anthem type that I love....

I usually buy em like that, unless there is an unbelievable track I hear, then I have to have it.

however I haven't bought a vinyl in a while since i am soo damn poor.

Started with classic uplifting trance (the 'must haves') now it's mostly prog and tech, bit of tech-trance as well :)

i buy whats hot. ill sift through old records, used stuff and just buy whats hot. dont really search for tokens or must haves, i mean occasionally ill get one if its hot but normally i just look for whatever, mainly house right now cuz of the reaale value here (house is much more popular than trance for the local djs) and just find funky ed up that plays out.

hard house :nervous: -> techno :disbelief -> deep house:) -> trance :D -> progressive house/trance :gsmile: -> house/progressive :tongue2

I first started buying vocal house/club tunes because that what I was first exposed too, then I started getting into tribal and prog. tunes. There were 2 record stores where I live and one of them closed so my selection was cut down. Finally I started ordering online and getting some hard, dirty techno and hard house. I also like chill, funky, groovy house

Started off by buying lots of progressive, unfortunately lots of lesser quality tracks too.. My style changed to techno a while ago, and also I'm now buying less records, but I make sure they are good :)
