| This is old news. It's getting developed by Grocon, a member of the Grollo group. An Australian company. The building is likely to be a carbon copy of a 560m tower that was proposed for and rejected by Melbourne. I think the Dubai version is going to be 492m. One of my mates is is over there helping out with the project. |

Not realted, but did you guys know that Bush's Family is very tied/friends with the Bin Ladin's family? and which they have both done contracts regarding oil??
Interesting Fact.. Did you know that after 9/11 a plane carrying saudis, among them Bin Ladin's family flew out of the US under permission ? . MMMMMm! |

I grew up in Abu Dhabi and moved in 1996, all my friends keeps bragging about Burj Al Arab and the rest of the attractions...
BTW, do u think Dubai might be safe place to move back to in the future?.. u no with all the political pressure and the mounting middle eastern tensions? |

I actually moved from Canada back to Abu Dhabi in 1996 when you left and I spent high school there. My family just moved to Dubai last summer. The UAE is definately safe to go back to. Abu Dhabi is nice but quieter than Dubai. If you're an Arab I suggest living in Abu Dhabi and chilling in Dubai on the weekends. If you're not Arab then you should live in Dubai where western culture is big. Lots of Brits, Americans, and Canadians around and the night life is good.
The political scene is a different story. There is no freedom of speech against the ruling Monarchy of course, but almost anything else is permitted. The UAE is like a bubble though. People aren't actively engaged in political discourse although you'll find it if you look for it. It's almost like my friends over there consider talking about politics seriously is an 'uncool thing to do'. It drove me crazy last summer when I went back from a politically charged campus life in Canada. You do also have to consider that people hear the same news all the time and nothing is new to them. There is no awareness to raise amongst them. They know everything but are desensitized to it, which is the problem. |
