Ok, these problems only started after i installed "the latest Windows Update"
I cannot run any executable files at all. This is strange in itself, as i cannot open Word by clicking on my Shortcut, BUT I CAN open word if i open an existing document.
However this does work for other stuff, for example i cannot watch any movie files on windows media player this way.
When i try and use a program via the shortcut, it just says that "Windows cannot find xxxxxx.exe, try and use the search function to find it"
Trying to run the program from its parent application does not work either.
I would use system restore but this weird thing has also affected Run32dll.exe, i cannot run my anti-virus programs or anything else!
I've probably got some ty virus :whip: :whip: on the plus side, loads of applications that usually run at startup are not running, so the computer is usuing 1/8th of the RAM i have :toothless |

it will be a virus! in XP it wont let you open any execultable if its got a virus (coz it will trigger the virus to spread itsel) i had this problem when i had a worm on all my executables, basically had to install a virus scanner (dunno how i managed it) then scan and delte all the infected files and reinstall my software.
however, it was a bit different for me, if jsut wudnt do anything if i tried to opej executables (although IE worked) it didnt give me any warnings or anything.
there is that nasty sasser virus doing the rounds atm, be safe, use a PC condom ;) |

i ran my anti virus this morning, and i had 3 trojan horses, that aren't listed in any virus encyclopaedia (wtf), got rid of those, then i got rid of these weird executable programs, and now this bastard problem has come up. and like you, my IE still works.
No warnings either :whip: |

and i am not affected by Sasser, cos i checked that out ages ago and my PC is up to date.
If i can't run any executables does that mean XP is infected, or this is a precautionary measure BY XP to stop the spread? |

the easiest way to deal with the problem is to prolly do a system restore... it takes your comp back to the way it was before a date you specify... make it a week or a month... and then do a virus scan as well as a scan with pest patrol and ad aware...
if worse comes to worse you may just wanna reformat but i personally wouldnt do that unless it was the absolute last thing that could be done |
