Thought provoking....I would agree with most of the cartoon. However, in the defense of the military, I would argue that the low troops levels and numbers have forced the DoD to resort to seek other methods to achieve "low end" priorities. |

Very few of the civilian contractors are doing jobs that would normally be thought of as "military." For the most part, the security services that they are providing are the same kinds of security services that would be provided by non-military agencies or private contractors in the US.
As for other things, why should it be necessary that the person serving a soldier's food be a member of the military? Or the crew assigned to rebuild power stations? Or the company that sold the US portable office trailers that also traveled to Iraq to set them up? These aren't "military" positions, and domestically, such positions have been filled by non-military contractors for quite some time. |
