Do we have any movie-buff TA's ?
Festival de Cannes opened yesterday and it is "apparently" the biggest media even after the Olympics - with over 400 media/press journelists!
There are some good movies that have been selected in the competition:
"2046," directed Wong Kar-wai
"Clean," directed Olivier Assayas
"Comme Une Image," directed Agnès Jaoui
"The Motorcycle Diaries" (Diarios de Motocicleta), directed by WalterSalles
"Die Fetten Jahre Sind Vorbei," directed by Hans Weingartner
"Exils," directed by Tony Gatlif
"Fahrenheit 9/11," directed by Michael Moore
"Innocence," directed by Oshii Mamoru
"Woman Is The Future Of Man," directed by Hong Sang-soo
"La Niña Santa," directed by Lucrecia Martel
"Le Conseguenze dell'amore," directed by Paolo Sorrentino
"Nobody Knows," directed by Hirokazu Kore-Eda
"Old Boy," directed by Park Chan-wook
"Shrek 2," directed by Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury, Conrad Vernon
"The Ladykillers," directed by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen
"The Life and Death of Peter Sellers," directed by Stephen Hopkins
"Tropical Malady," directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul
"Zivot je Cudo," directed by Emir Kusturica
And the official Jury for the competition:
Quentin TARANTINO: President (Director, scriptwriter - United States)
Emmanuelle BEART (Actress - France)
Edwidge DANTICAT (Writer - United States)
Tilda SWINTON (Actress - United Kingdom)
Kathleen TURNER (Actress - United States)
Benoît POELVOORDE (Actor, scriptwriter - Belgium)
Jerry SCHATZBERG (Director - United States)
TSUI Hark (Director - Hong Kong)
Peter VON BAGH (Film Critic - Finland)
One movie that is of particular interest [but not in competition] is Zhang Yimou's latest martial arts epic "House of Flying Daggers" which stars Andy Lau, Zhang ZiYi and Takeshi Kaneshiro. This would definitely be a must-see for fans of "Hero".
Will there be any French TA's attending?
And what are everyone bets on the winners?
