tunes with different bpm's

Having trouble mixing tunes in with different bpm's, or is just a fact that u need to mix tunes with roughly the same bpm's.

all tracks have different BPM's. if they were all the same, we wouldn't need pitch sliders...

now, what do you really mean? different beat structures? as in, 4 to the floor vs. breakbeats?

or do you mean very different BPMs? as in 123BPM house vs. 140BPM trance?

i know all tracks have different bpm's, but do u need to mix 2 together with roughly the same bpm's for the mix to be spot on, i'm new to mixing and mix alot of classic house, old skool and early rave stuff and a litte trance.

of course! half of mixing is pitching the tracks. you have the live track, and then you have your cued track, the one you're going to mix in. you have to pitch it so it is as near to the other track's BPM as possible. once this is done, then you beatmatch it, which is lining up the beats, so they're on at the same time, and are also synchronized, beatwise.

i know i went against all u guys advise, but i went with the numark axis 9's, one of them froze on me on the scratch mode, so had to send back, of which they sent a new one, had no probs yet. I'm impressed with them so far, especially the 3 hot starts, u can do funky stuff. One gripe i wil have and thats when i'm trying to find the exact point on the disc, using the jog wheel, it will lose itself for a split second and then pick up again, might be a laser flaw or scratch on the cd, or a cd problem, doesnt happen all the time though, so not to much of a hassle, bit annoying when ya trying to find that all important part of the track that u want to drop in.

Any way back to bpm'. So u match the bpm's but what if the next track to drop in sounds ridicules slow or too fast?

oh and a vestax 275 mixer, which am learning how to kill the bass freqencies and advise on that one.

If it sounds too fast/slow then you probably need to work on track selection. Otherwise, you could mix into it during a non-percussive part, or do instant up/down pitches of the live record at key points.

thanks, i'm mixing tunes at the mo, with roughly the same bpm at the mo, some tunes need little adjustment though, but thats the joy of mixing right.

I am new to mixing and i mix alot of vocal up lifting stuff, and sometimes drop another tune in too early, as i am trying to mix to tuens together for too long i think, whens the about the right time to drop another track in?

well, if the one you're mixing sounds too slow or two fast when you have it pitched, then it's not that good of a choice to mix in.

you should never play with the pitch of the live record, although you can do it in very small amounts over long periods, just as long as no one who is listening can notice. i may have done it a few times in order to achieve a proper mix when the 0% pitch lock was throwing me off.

but basically thats it...

Ahh, you should never say never:p

Take an energetic record, and right at the start of the climax, bump up the pitch 1-2%.

so if you play during 3 hours you keep it always at the same bpm? :conf:

you're right for sure about making it the most un-noticeable possible though.
