Iraqi Leader Killed in Bomb Blast

The US administrator for Iraq, Paul Bremer, condemned the killing and vowed to defeat those responsible.
"The terrorists who are seeking to destroy Iraq have struck a cruel blow with this vile act," Mr Bremer said in a statement.
But they would be defeated and Mr Salim's vision of a "democratic, free and prosperous Iraq" would become a reality, he said.
The IGC also condemned the killing of their leader.
Ghazi Ajil al-Yawer - a Sunni Muslim from the northern city of Mosul appointed as Mr Salim's successor - said he would continue the march towards freedom and democracy despite the bomb attack.
"This is a terrorist act that will not dissuade the Governing Council from continuing its work to build a federal, united Iraq," he said.
Mr Yawer will serve as IGC head until the transfer of sovereignty to Iraqis, scheduled for 30 June. |

The IGC rotates presidents every 30 or so days to get council members accustomed to the daily goings on inside it's administration. Salim was not the target in so much as the office was. F**kin sad, very frustrating, I hope can be unifying if they find the will and the strength.
Nothing can stop the will of the free world, not even Islam in it's most foul perversion.

From the reports I've heard so far, it sounds like his security was seriously lacking - although it appears to have been his own fault rather than the fault of the coalition. Still, one has to wonder why his convey hung around that long, surely they realized that he would be a target?

This I disagree with, imposing democracy with the barrel of a gun is impossible at worst, and difficult at best. If the majority of Iraqis don't want democracy, then we won't be able to enforce it. If the US sustains enough damage, it will withdraw, will of the 'free world' or not.

As for this, I really don't know what this has to do with anything. What's with the completely random France bashing that pops up all over the place? (not necessarily directed at you, although the above was an example of what I'm referring too) I've only ever see Americans do it, so it must be a US phenomena. Help me out here, what exactly do American conervatives and neocons have against France? :conf: |
