well its not really the smell that bothers me: if i could go to a club, some back smelling like smoke, and not be worse for the wear, fine i would take it.
But the problem is that second hand smoke is soooooo bad for you! Thats why its being banned. What about the hundreds of millions of dollars we spend to treat smokers and their cancer?
Should people who dont smoke, firstly have to pay for the treatment, when the people who are sick KNEW the effects? secondly, should others who dont smoke be subjected to the possiblity of developing cancer through no fault of their own?
if you wanna smoke, do it outside where it disapates into the atmosphere, not where other people HAVE TO PUT UP WITH IT. |

If people are so worried about some second hand smoke once a week at a club may i suggest never walking down the street during rush hour in downtown toronto?
Also, to use the health care arguement (we have to pay for their cancer) is a very slippery slope. Its a dangerous arguement to use because the government can then try and control all kinds of aspects of our behaviour based on this arguement. If this is the best you can come up with i will always counter it with "THEN U CAN HAVE YOUR OWN DAMN HEALTH CARE AND ILL BUY MY OWN THANKS!" rather than have the threat of control hanging over my head. |

As a person who only smokes when he indulges in... you know, 'stuff', I am of a mind that this is a good thing.
but
I was working as a bouncer at the Phoenix when they tried to institute this in 1997 (, I'm old) and it failed miserably. People are going to have to be told in no uncertain terms, that they must butt out or out they go!
But I sure love smoking late at night.;) |

| It's also a workplace safety issue. For the occasional clubgoer, it's not really a big deal, but for the people working there, it is a long-term health hazard. |

LOL What the hell are you talking about hun? Here in LA, we've had the "non-smoking" law for YEARS... and no one has lost their jobs, and there are more people than ever at the clubs.
I just think it's alot better if there is a designated smoking area or patio, so that non-smokers don't have to die because of YOUR second-hand smoke! |

the "we lose millions in health care because of smoking" is not an argument, the gov't makes millions more on cigarette taxes than it spends on health care costs due to cigarettes
that aside, I like the idea of going to a club that isnt filled with smoke, because of both the smell and the health risk |
