I'm looking to start DJing (not 100% seriously)
Looking through the classified ads in the newspaper people are selling these, does anyone rate them?
Don't say 'save and get Technics 1200s', i've already had that discussion and decided against it.
The TTs are
Technics SLD2
Gemini SA 900
For beginner TTs, any good? (Compared with Stanton STR8-30s, what i'm most likely to be getting in a kit)
I've never heard of them before. |

Never heard of them either. But a quick look @ google gave me this:

Sounds like a bad idea. The str8-30's aren't pretty good either. I think u'd better buy JbSystems High Q30's or something. They're not too expensive and worth it for a beginner who doesn't want to spend a fortune. |

for a beginner, i think numark decks are great.. the bottom end are cheap and cheerful, and i always think its good to learn on decks as you have to spend a lot of time playing with the decks to get the pitch right, which when learning can only be good.
i started out with a numark package that consisted of 2 numark tt1650's, and a numark dm3000ex 3 channel mixer, all for about £400 which wasn't bad.. but if you get serious about it, eventually you will out-grow them, and want to buy a more expensive deck, like vestax pdx2000's or 1210's. it is true, if you pay moire, you get more and they last longer.
i don't like stantons either :p |

stanton str8-30s? dont do it.
get at least the 80s, theyre pretty solid decks, theyve worked for me for 3 years, great to learn on. eventually, yes, you will grow out of them (i have on mine) but i dont have the money to upgrade, and i dont mind keeping them. they give me practice in case i ever play on some other person's ty equip, and plus it makes club play easy as hell |

first of all, how much are you willing to fish out for a set?
but assuming you dont want to spend TOO much, then i would recommend the numark tt200's. direct drive, great toque, looks very sweet (imo), and quite a few TAs around here have them, too. you can get both for 300 + s/h. i think there might even be a set for sale in the forum.
before i got my tech 1200s (a mk2 and m3d), i SERIOUSLY thought about getting either the tt200 or tt500. my other, more expensive choices were the vestax pdx2000, numark ttx, and of course the 1200. but i guess it was pure coincidence and i found a great deal for the 1200s on ebay and went for it! :)
dont settle for that vintage table... it wasnt exactly built for mixing plus its harder to find replacement parts.
as for a mixer, it depends on what you are going to be doing... scratching/mixer/both. so yeah, look around, ask, go to a local store to try them out, and see!
hope this helped you a bit... and gl in your shopping! |

I think whats meant by beginner tables are the cheaper in price, lower end of the product range turntables :) |

| Go with the 2nd hand techs, I got one for $150 and one for $200 off EBay...can't beat that, you just gotta look around for the good deals. Anyway, I think you would be more satisfied with the 2nd hand techs than something like new Numark decks or something like that. |
