ok, I have a final project due today. I'm supposed to conduct a poll about my topic. I know this should be in the poll section, but no one ever goes there.
PLease answer yes, no, or no opinion:
Are the results of search engines with paid placement of listings acceptable?
AND
Is it ethical for search engines to use paid placement in their search engines without clear disclosure?
thanks! |

advertisers pay to have their site come up at the top of searches.
so if I have a computer store, I pay a search engine money, and whenever someone searches computer store....I am the #1 result. |

No for both I think. In my opinion, a search engine should give you the most accurate result, not the one that some guy paid more money to the search engine company for.
I know there's the paid links in google but that's something different, they're in a different place and I usually ignore then anyway, except in the 1 in 50 chance that they've got anything to do with what I searched for. |

I agree with everything you said. The paid-for links should be in a seperate section (top?) and labeled as such. |
