photoshop is all u need, just use some of your own imagination rather than following tutorials; however, theyre good to learn certain technics, but by combining different technics u can do amazing stuff

and yes, vector art seems to be the new "trend" nowadays imo

Nah; Pics = bitmap ...

But you can convert a bitmap to vector rather easily ( if you know what you're doing ;) ) and then you can resize the pic any way possible without any pixelation
