Well, I'm not usually one for reviews, but I owe such a debt to John, Emery, and the rest of TA and it's talented DJs.
From the houseparty last year, to System on a Friday, you all have made up a signifigant party of the good times I've enjoyed this past year.
This Friday was a prime example... not 30minutes removed from discovering my own deck had been ripped out of my car, and lots of stuff stolen, I made it to System to be tackled, hugged, kissed, and greeted with the biggest smiles and enthusiasm that it made any negativity seem miniscoule.
I could break down every set, and each person that made the night memorable, but "YOU ALL KICK ASS" sums it up nicely.
Thanks to you all, it was a helluva night. |

Also SOOO true John. Ryan's talents as a photographer are phenomenal, and I do not just refer to his work with System. If you go and look at his full gallery on his website, it's astoundingly good. Thank you so much for shooting the party Ryan....world class talent in your own right!!!!

Alrite, after a most crazy intense, stressful, insane, and amazingly fun weekend, I finally got a chance to sit down a write a proppa review for this. So here it goes:
Words cannot express the amount of thanks and gratitude I have for everyone here for all their tireless support and appreciation for everything that John and I have done over the last 12 months. It is difficult to comprehend how much it means to us when people come to tell us what great of a job we’re doing and how much fun they’re having at a party.
I also want to take the time to say that the last 12 months working with John have been a blast. I’ve learned so much and had a lot of fun being able to get involved at an organizational level. But more importantly, I’ve had the opportunity to work with someone who is committed to Tranceaddict, its DJs, its community, and last but not least his friends & family. I’ve been partying in this scene for a little over 5 years now and throughout this time I’ve come to know a lot of different people in the industry and experience a lot of different parties. It’s very easy to become jaded when you realize that times change, people change, and so do you. John is one of those people who shows me that someone who has been active within the scene for so long can still keep it real and stand by his values. He understands that the foundation of this scene is not built upon, big clubs or big DJs, but by the people that are part of it. His ability to become more highly involved within the organizational aspects of the scene allowed him to give back to the people whom he could associate with. Some of you may already know that trance and jungle have always been the 2 genres of music that John has been a biggest fan of. He has been an active member of both tranceaddict.com and torontojungle.com for a number of years.
I once asked John as to why he decided to organize Invasion nights for Tranceaddict rather than torontojungle to which he responded:
“YO… TJ is juss pure flaming man. there’s no unity there. ppl on TA understand that you gotta be cool with each other.”
Despite his incessant flaming upon TAs in his earlier days on the board, when I first met John I realized that his online persona and his actual personality in person were far different. Initially he never hesitated to speak his mind and unleash an array of online vulgarities at anyone not in agreement with his dispositions. But over time he changed for the better. The Tranceaddict community showed him that a true sense of unity and support existed within a virtual group of people. John will always be a person who is blunt and down to earth, but one thing that he has gained is sensitivity and a greater respect for the people that make up the scene. His fondness for this strong camaraderie gave motivation for giving back to the people who helped change him and who provided him with a newfound sense of appreciation for what all this is really about.
I have always viewed Tranceaddict as being a place that allowed many of the people who were fans of trance music and other forms of EDM alike to converge and communicate with each other in an environment that can sometimes make it difficult to find others who share a similar passion in music. I’ve always found a sense of personal satisfaction just being able to contribute positively to the community and to get to know its members. I first became involved in working with John on the first TA Invasion by volunteering to design its flyer. Since then I have offered to design subsequent flyers and was eventually asked by John to assist him in the planning of the TA Invasion events themselves. I was given the opportunity to organize as well as select the DJ lineups for TA Invasion 4, 5, and 6. This experience has shown me what a great selection of talented DJs we have on Tranceaddict and the potential of so much more with our strong community. Just to be part of the entire process has been great and I look forward to working with John again in the future as well as providing many more of our DJs the chance to showcase their talents.
When I look in retrospect at our community over the past 12 months I can see where we’ve come from and how much we’ve changed. It wasn’t very long ago when our messageboards were plagued by constant flaming and genre wars between trance and progressive fans. Over the course of time, by bringing people together we have all helped to alleviate such problems that have traditionally divided us. This is not to say that our community today is not without its problems, but helping to solve such problems is what’s most important and hopefully through these events we can strengthen the type of unity that has brought us where we are today. When you can put a name to a face it definitely shows us how people can quickly change their attitudes about each other.
Lastly, all of these events would have been impossible without the help and contribution of so many people. It’s amazing to think about what a great group of people can accomplish when they work hard to help and support each other in the way that we have.
A big thanks to all the DJs who played at Friday’s event:
Aaron Mossey
Mike Schryer
Vagrant (Matt & Eric)
Deep Groove (Alex & Ariel)
Mobius
Cinar Onat
DJ Eso
DJ 24_7
You guys all did a phenomenal job, and there isn’t much more that I can say about your sets that haven’t been said already. Each of you never cease to amaze me with your talent behind the decks and I look forward to being able to hear you guys play at another one of our events sometime soon.
I don’t want to single any one individual’s help for what we’ve done, but I can’t hesitate not to give special thanks to a few key people:
Alex & Ariel of Deep Groove
- I can’t thank you guys enough for seeing the potential of John and I with Tranceaddict and what we could do to bring to your nights at System. We strongly appreciate the opportunity and chance that you’ve provided us and our DJs to showcase our talents to an audience who appreciates it.
Swamper
- Well what more can I say? Thanks for your tireless efforts running this site and helping to bring about this community and a place for us to come together and celebrate the music. Your efforts do not go unnoticed and what you do for us is appreciated wholeheartedly. It’s amazing to see what TA has become in the short time that it’s been around and it’s exciting to think about where it will eventually go and what we can all do to help it reach its success.
System Soundbar & The Guvernment Nightclub
- Thank you for the opportunity to allow us the chance to have our DJs play in some of the most amazing clubs and venues in this city. Many promoters dream of the chance to play in either club, but you have realized the potential that our DJs have and allowed us the ability to prove ourselves. Thanks also to all the prizes and donations you’ve given us to share with our fans alike.
Dekoze
- Thank you for dropping by at our anniversary event and playing a special guest set that was a surprise to everyone in the club!
Ryan Parks
- For helping us look better than we really are! ;)
E2K1EL aka. John
- Thank you for allowing me to be involved with 1NT3RF3RENC3. I am deeply honoured to being able to work with someone like you who truly care for the scene and the people who are part of it. The experiences that I’ve gained have proven invaluable. More importantly, I consider you not just a great person to work with but also a great friend. I can only hope that you will continue to do what you have been doing already and it is my every wish to be there to help you as I always have been.
A big thanks also goes out to Ari aka. itikia of Temporal Rhythm, Dennis Hahn of Fresh Entertainment, Elixir of WTF and all the other promoters and clubs out there for continuing to provide the Tranceaddict DJs with more opportunities to showcase their talents and further advance their careers in the music industry. One of 1NT3F3R3NC3’s goals was to help DJs with their aspirations by giving them a chance to play at various venues; you guys have also helped to make this possible by your own continued support for what we have done.
Finally a huge thanks to everyone who have helped us with all the little things like organizing meetups, recording & broadcasting the livesets, and most of all supporting our events!!! Special thanks also go out to all the TAs who pitched in for E2EK1EL’s present, and signed his card! You all know who you are… ;)
Whether or not you were present at any Tranceaddict event past or present, continue to support Tranceaddict and continue to support the EDM scene in this city! You are the sole reason why we organize these events and we hope that through them we can continue to help make Toronto a great place to live and party! It is truly people like you reading this who help build this scene and are making it stronger every day.
BOH!
ps.
"Yes, you guys “almost” made a BOD MON cry in public! Thank you!"
