| my brother went to a party a week or so ago (he's 16) and some dude called a few of his friends who ended up crashing the party, trashing what was a very expensive house (think holes in walls) and causing enough damage to send the father and the 16yo boy whose party it was in an ambulance to hospital. Apparently these guys jumped the back fence and jumped on a train to go crash some other party, too bad the police rocked up too late, meanwhile they gave my brothers mate a a fine for underage drinking out the front after he, goes "mayb you should worry about whats going on inside more", i guess the cops found out he was right after all. |

| violence sucks, chicks dont dig fights so why bother, i guess some ppl just have something to prove and sometimes the ppl doing the bashing has every right to. Depends on the situation i guess but no violence is pretty. |

I was thinking over lunch... do we as a society condone violence? For example rugby, the aim is to get to the other side by any means (in the rules) possible, even if it is force... hmmm.. |
sport is a funny situation, it is considered outside the realm of normal society. its changing now because of professionalism and the money involved, but sport is seen as a way of expressing those things that are normally frowned upon, i.e. running up to someone and tackling them on the street would make a very weird situation, but on the field its seen as a normal thing and it is measured by its brutality whether it was good or not
so the inference is that if everyone played some kind of contact sport, or really any competitive sport, theyd have a medium to vent their rage "appropriately". women may hate violence on the streets, but their is something appealing about a pretty boy who just happens to be a high payed professional football player who destroys his body week in week out haha :( |

"How ironic that the greatest forge of civilisation is WAR"
Plato made this statement over 2000 years ago and it stills holds true today. Its unfortunate but if it wasnt for war we wouldnt have aircraft (the wright bros might have first flown in 1904 but flying was developed properly only during WW1), satellites, spacecraft and the ISS (cold war), nuclear power, MDMA (:D) and a million other technologies all developed during times of War.
Im certainly not condoning war or violence but it unfortunatley seems to be human nature that we advance best when we are pressured the most. So i dont see this changing anytime soon!
Oh and someone said that violence was caused by the fact that everyone was on different levels, that we werent all counted equal. I think you only need to look at Stalin's Russia were everyone was supposedly counted equal to see that this doesnt really hold out.
Just my thoughts.... :) |

People that believe in violence are likely to want to oppress a certain group of people. |

imho, a world with no conflict would be a pretty boring one *shrug* |
Viewing the antics between you and a certain other AUTA in Cams thread makes it seem like you enjoy the conflict and confrontation..:whip: :p

conflict/violence is what society grows and changes from tho...it's a basic part of the human condition....it's not nice, but life isn't meant to be all nice all the time |
Agree. These basic instincts are caused by the evolutionary ancient limbic system (“lizard brain”) in the human brain. Hunger, beliefs, fatigue, and threats will trigger an alert response that will take priority over rational thought. The limbic system controls the endocrine system that produces hormones like adrenaline; and it also controls the ‘pleasure centre’ which is one of the reasons why guys tend to think with their dicks in certain circumstances ;)
sociocultural indoctrination is also another factor but i don't think it is as prevelent
my post in a thread on 'bloodlust' in the Political Discussion Debate forum a few months ago:
| quote: | tathi
The deficiency of serotonin in the frontal cortex (evolved brain and responsible for rational thought) and superfluous endorphins, are factors. These people are momentarily ruled by the limbic system which is inherently instinctual and irrational. There is also a hardening of the arteries, most of these people who cannot control their anger die of heart attack at a young age |

'Supposedly' was a good choice in words, Stalinist Russia was very hierarchical. Humans are not inherently egalitarian, Orwell's 1984 is a good example of an 'equal' society

Pz... this same thread is in the Chill Out forum, but i thought i might get more answers in here from people that are from Australia, & i might not get that many QUALITY answers from the other forum. |
you will probably get higher quality posts in the political discussion debate forum |
