This is the human version of Mad cow disease...I think its pretty horrific how slow and dibilitating this disease is, just like HIV

US's first vCJD case defies survival odds

Euthenasia is the term i believe

I guess people just have to be more cautious these days. Things like this can affect the average "it wouldnt happen to me" type of person.

Well i think there are two things worth mentioning here...

1. I think like that has always been around but now we just have more media coverage and so much infromation that indeed we are more 'aware' of it rather than before

2. We created so much crap on this planet that it's comming to get us now - think of all the nuclear tests and bombs that US, USSR, and other nations blew up - now think of all the radiation - a very possible explanation to the enormous rise in cancer over the past years.

Another thing is that the world is now a "global village" and exotic diseases taht before were isolated to only very specific remote locations can now freely travel around the world (with passengers) - ie. SARS is a great example and i'm sure there's more.

Good points here.

I think its a mesh of these notions and the argument that Firestarter used
