Here's one from the, "sorry, but who are you again" files...

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/05/25/bush.un/index.html

My favorite part is that both France and Russia are both asking for "stricter" more "defined" wording in the resolution, or it will not be passed. Hmmm...what does that sound like?

diplomatic and political posturing. nothing new when it comes to the issues that involve dissention within the permanent members I suppose.

Whats more important, i think, is that none of them have come out and said it's a "horrible plan that is destined to fail" flavor like some of their rhetoric on Iraqi issues in the past.

Their critisisms about the turnover have been somewhat mild. Of course their going to be critical about something seeing how they (France and Russia) would potentialy have the most to lose in a successful Iraq.

The subdued critisisms so far just tells me that the plan may hold water and is seen by the UN community as credible and doable.

what exactly would france and russia lose in a successful iraq?! :conf:

mmh russia and france but also china ...if i ain't wrong had so far well before the iraq war begin a lot of contracts with iraq about oil wells .....it was very favorable to the economies of these countries since yeah iraq was obliged to " give " oil in exchange of food and things they needed to survive ....a strong iraq would mean from now on it's more or less iraq which would decide about the price of the oil they want to sell and finally france and russia would loose a lot of benefits they had til now ...

France and Russia lost their drilling rights they had before the war. It ain't coming back either no matter what their posturing is. No involvement in a free Iraq, then no freebies either m*ther******s!

secret squirrel arms deals, oil, cash, face.

whatever a cozy relationship like their's offer.

yeah, but the war is already a fact, so they should not lose anything on a successful iraq...

I think he's trying to say that a corrupt Iraq in dissaray would offer the same type of "benefits" that a corrupt Iraq under Saddam offered.

your right, what's done, is done.

I have no doubt they would have preferred the pre-war status quo for more dubious reasons than what they lead the anti-war, pro-peace left on to believe.

Weren't wrong were they?!

Did it not occur to anyone that maybe France and Russia both may just be concerned with the situation in Iraq? And want to see it resolved? America hasn't got a clue (about how to resolve the mess, or even why they are there in the first place). You know that, I know that, the British know that, and most likely, France and Russia know that.

Maybe France and Russia think (know) that for a democratic Iraq to exist, the Iraqis must have complete (democratic*) control over their own country if this hand over is to have any chance of succeeding. An Iraq ruled by America aint got no chance of ever working (remember we are trying to get Iraqis on our side, or to share our views, and putting them under American rule, which is what they are under now and dont want, is not gonna win us any favours at all is it?)

*democracy, you may want to look it up somewhere..!

Well that is true. See during the gulf episode Irakian (spelling??) had some anti aircraft vechiles / posts whit french technology, was it Crotale or some thing alike. And we all know what AVACS did on those... (= shut the F.up or da bomba is delivered)

Woops I quoted on wrong fella. the dude abow vas my preliminary target :)

What Iraq would need now is a very anticorrupted administration and only critical business outboard. But that is just my 2 cents in billion $ world.

Maybe.
That's fine, you wish failure and that's, okay. I just wish you would just come out and say it though.
