Pharmacy Winter Carnival: [Evil Empire]
Friday 2nd July @ QBH [We're coming inside for the Winter!]
Turn on the radio! Nah it, turn it off! Like the huge pulsating brain that rules from the centre of the ultra world, the infamous Pharmacy rat pack are back with another concentrated campaign of techno terrorism! Shall we import lard or steel? Preparedness makes us powerful, butter merely makes us fat. This is anti-acoustic warfare- Pharmacy style!
Despite continued protests from the Pharmacists Board or Victoria, Pharmacy remain resolute to continue healing the world with their patented prescriptions of uplifting 'chick soup for the soul' trancey goodness, sinister acid storms, filthy tech-trance grooves, and a smattering of brutal hard trance for good measure.
Comprising the very first Pharmacy boy band are Swiss trance prodigies S.H.O.K.K & Flutlicht, heir to the techtrance dynasty Marcel Woods, Melbourne’s orchids from the afterworld SonicAnimation, proving once and for all that hip hop deejays don’t play techno, the irrepressible Afrika Islam (Son of Bambaataa) and of course Pharmacy’s very own Frankenchrist; the Hellraiser!
S.H.O.K.K. [Overdose Records, Switzerland]
SHOKK’s unique sound has dazed clubbers around Europe and across the globe. Claudio has played virtually every major trance festival including Nature One and the Zurich Street Parade as well as UK institutions including Gods Kitchen and the Tidy Weekender. Proclaimed as the new trance prodigy SHOKK is responsible for the anthems Folie de Deux, Isn’t It All A Little Strange and the smash hit My Madness Says What I Must Do plus a host of massive remixes including Signum’s Coming On Strong and Dj Spoke’s Ignition. SHOKK and Marcel Woods have just completed a new collaboration for ID&T under the moniker Woodshokk called Tulips & Chocolate- a hard trance monster in the making!
Flutlicht [Drizzly Records, Switzerland]
The Flutlicht name is fast becoming a major brand in the harder edged trance scene worldwide. His remixes and productions are in demand all over the planet. His singles Icarus, The Fall and Mutterkorn have seen phenomenal success. On the remix side Flutlicht has reworked such acts as Cosmic Gate, DuMonde, Marc Dawn, Talla2XLC and of course his partner in crime SHOKK. Many heralded Flutlicht’s Melbourne performance in 2003 as one of the great moments in trance and unquestionably one of the sets of the year!
Afrika Islam / Mr. X [Son Of Bambaataa, Rocksteady Crew, DMC World Champ, USA]
Producer/Member of Ice-T
Member of Mr.X & Mr.Y with Westbam
Member / DJ of the world famous Rock Steady Crew
DMC World Champ and inductee into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame
Son of Afrika Bambaataa
President of the Universal Zulu Nation!
Hip hop deejays don’t play techno! Prepare for one of the fattest block party sets from one of the most successful musicians on the planet! Only the biggest and best party tunes cut, scratched and mashed together across four decks!
After these various highly successful hip hop achievements Afrika Islam forged a totally new path for himself developing a new hybrid sound that incorporated trance, electro, hip hop, techno and house. Moving to Germany Afrika partnered with Westbam creating the deejay team Mr X & Mr Y in turn becoming one of the Low Spirit family and headlining major events including Mayday, Nature One and Love Parade.
Afrika Islam has produced with Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, George Clinton, Tricky, Carl Cox, Paul Van Dyke, Dj Rush, Moby, Prodigy, Nine Inch Nails, Dr Dre and Ice Cube as well as touring with Guns N Roses, Metallica, Jeff Mills, Kai Tracid, The Beastie, Run DMC and his partner in crime Westbam!
Marcel Woods [ID&T, Holland]
Tulips, windmills and kinky porn are not the only exports paying Holland’s way in the world. Recently the Dutch have become infamous as their new breed of techtrance gurus rock crowds across the globe. Like Marco V and Don Diablo, Marcel Woods has taken the world by blitzkrieg with his own harder than most twist on the tech trance franchise. While headlining mega-festivals such as Defqon1, Sensation, Mysteryland and Shockers, it is Marcel’s productions such as Time Is Running Out, Theme Of Sensation 2002 plus his collaborations with Swiss maestro SHOKK and German stalwart Yves De Ruyter that have made him one of Hollands most in demand deejays. Got wood? He have!

sonicanimation [live]
sonicanomation are undoubtedly Australia’s most popular live dance/crossover act. They were the local highlight of the Big Day Out 2004; their live performances legendary. Welcome to the world of sonicanimation. Pogo sticks, antelopes on skates, furry monsters and paralexic clichés…Come, come into our world... The singles Love Lies Bleeding, [/i]Theophilus Thisler[/i] and I’m The DJ saw the sonicanimation boys ride a phenomenal wave of success that eventuated in their winning the ‘Best Live Act’ at the DMA ‘s. Reverb is no longer producing the 'Flulicht' project, however this has not affected the Flutlicht DJ bookings. I'm not 100% sure whats happening with the productions now, however Danni tells me there is a new Flutlicht track on the way. |
