I wouldn't call Mauro Picotto a techno DJ....he's widely acknowledged as a Hard Trance DJ, with Scot Project, Chris Lawrence, Dave Webster, Taucher, and Talla 2XL.
Techno DJ's: Jeff Mills, Sven Vath, Dave Clarke, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox (though he's kinda tech-house)

Well the people who know me ...know i think the best dj in the world is Paul Van Dyk.....well honeslty hes not a dj but a GOD!...Guardian of Trance him self!!!...
then i would have to say
Ferry Corsten,Carl Cox,Picotto,armin.....
Tiesto used to be on my top 5 list until recently he became a Oakenfold copy cat which is one dj that why the hell would u be like ....well its cool i guess its just ty to see there sets almost identical lately....... |

U pvd-lovers have to explain me something.... WHY is pvd such a God? or even "the gardian of trance". I mean, pvd plays cheezy/commercial trance and he produces cheezy/commercial trance (except for an angel a couple of years ago). I wouldn't call such a person GOD or even the gardian of trance. Something I forgot: even technicaly he isn't that brilliant... so that's why I don't get it you all call him "God".
Trance isn't my favourite style but if I had to name a trance-god I would rather choose a dj like Danny Howels, Nick Warren, Digweed, Sasha, Kleinenberg etc etc etc. At least they don't play cheezy trance.

Wow, this is a tough thread!
I understand what HobbesGroove was saying (what's up Brett? ;) ) It's hard to specify one particular DJ because I feel that they all have their weaknesses and strengths, and everyone has thier own opinions as well as their own unique preferences. Also, these DJ's may not always be easily categorized into one particular genre of electronic music... Mauro Picotto's and PvD's styles are ever changing, not just from day to day but from set to set and even from song to song in each individual set.
Last Friday night I witnessed Tall Paul lay down some hard-hitting house and then quickly and surreptitiously ease the mix back over to melodic and surreal progressive trance. Many of these DJ's escape classification, with PvD and Mauro being the best two examples that I know of. That being said, I guess that if you could somehow arrive at a cumulative score (via track selection, mixing, beat matching, production, creativity, showmanship, uniqueness, etc.) then I personally would rate as follows:
1. PvD
2. Tiësto
3. Oakenfold
4. AvB
5. Ferry Corsten
6. Mauro Picotto
7. Dave Seaman
8. Sasha
9. Tall Paul (after last Friday I have great respect for this man!)
10. George Acosta

Don't pull my words out of it's context! Trance has been my favourite style for a long time but I still don't get it why pvd is God?? Why he is God of Trance that is... |
