Hi all,
Just signed up here. Been into trance since 99, and been DJing for 3 years now.
Recently decided to have a shot at production....here's a sample of my very first (and thus far, only) attempt at a tune.
I'm having problems building the tension up towards the end of the breakdown, anyone got any ideas?
SAMPLE HERE
Look forward to hearing your opinions and suggestions.

Hi and Welcome to TA :D!
The tune aint bad at all. Its main problem though is that it lacks complexity and some extra elements + Better eq on the kick, but thats a common problem :). Oh, you should use a substring in the Break to phat it up. Other than that, this is very nice.
Cheers,
Antonio. |

Thanks for the reply m8,
Yeh i know it's "minimal" to say the least at the moment. I'm having trouble adding extra sub-melodies and stuff at the moment. I know it needs building up more through the break too.
I have changed the file, I added changes to make it less repetitive.
Anyone else?

sounds pretty good for your first production. The song started off pretty well but as you pointed out, it is quite minimal and needs more complexity. the feel of the song is very nice.
as for the breakdown, if you are looking to build some tension you're going to need to add back in some rythmic elements - cheesy drum rolls, some faster rythmic synths perhaps - or change the chord progression to build up some tension there. Even try stripping back the break down to fewer elements, so you can then start layering them back in.
eternal music made a good point about the substring in the break - excellent way to fatten up that sound! |
