Ok, so in a month I will be punching in the keys of my new synth. Or at least turning the knobs on it :)
But the thing is, I can't decide which one to get. I don't have ANY other hardware, except for a keyboard (E-68) which is basically worthless when it comes to actually creating quality sounds (it has a bunch of pre recorded instrument samples, that's all it's good for).
So the synth I would get would need to have built in effects, but high quality ones. Preferably something that is better with a hardware effect then a software effect. I've been thinking about the Virus C, but is there nothing newer on the market that can do the same things but maybe .. more ? Trust me I have been searching for a while on this, it's not like you wake up and spent 2G's like as if you're buying breakfast huh. Buit since I have no experience with synths, I don't know what I should be looking for you see. The basic components are available on every pricy synth. I'm just trying to see which ones are better then the average.

If you know what you want in a synth, you gotta shop around and find what meets your needs. Many of us who are not loaded with cash do also manage to spend $2000 in one pop through a tough process known as "saving up money". That's how I bought my DJ setup... and that's how I'll buy my first 3 synths and an AppleG5 PowerPC.
magazines, websites, and the TA production forums have plenty of reading for finding your first synth. Also, look at it as something that can happen more than once.... buy more than 1 synth to make up for where you wanted something more. |

Well, it all comes down to what YOU want and need, not what's best. :)Right now, everything you buy is good itself. But it's you that'll make it BETTER than the other ones. OK, the Nord Lead 2, which I have, great sounds but people hate it because it doesn't have any effects, only 4 part multitimbral, small LCD, and other limitations. You get one and you're overpaying for it as it is. A Virus B or C will be a better buy FEATURES wise, or sound wise...again it depends on you. But the Nord has it's own character, you hear it in a lot of productions, like The Crystal Method, and other ones. Anyway, if you're into the common Super Saw sounds, then go for JP8000 or JP-8080. If you are into trancey leads, get a Virus. If you want real analog sound, get an Andromeda, but get ready for some pain as it has it's little problems. This is not coming from me, it's what I've read in reviews so it's not my opinion in what you should get.
I have a Nova, a Virus B, a Nord Lead 2, a Prophecy, an AN1x, and an Xtreme Lead-1. I like all of them and they have their strenghts and weaknesses. I couldn't suggest one of them because they all sound good. |
