| i really like the lyrics and they way they are spoken and i am wondering if James Holden wrote them himself or if they are taken from somewhere, like a book or a poem or something. does anyone know if it is his own or where they come from? |

| A good question. I don't have a definitive answer, but I heard a rumor -- and it's only that, a rumor -- that his sister was reading Chinese poetry and he recorded her, effecting it afterwards. But I don't know how factual this is. I'm curious myself. |

that's interesting.
i've always thought the lyrics would make a good haiku.
[edit:] i can't help but wonder what his sister might look like |

HAHA you got me thinking about it now!
HEY I have an approximation for you:
think of:
Jake Gyllenhaal
Maggie Gyllenhaal
Makes sense, right :D? |

| I believe he composed it in response to not being able to be with his girlfriend as much as he used to, due to his constant travelling. |

the distorted vocals (i think they are saying "I love you, i love you my love" are his sister singing
the male talking in the song saying "I have put out the light" that i don't know where it came from
theres an inteview where he mentions this
| quote: | On ‘I Have Put Out The Light’ there are vocals done by Jenny Holden, is she family of you?
James: Yeah, she is my little sister - she plays the violin (better than I can) and the piano (better than I can) and sings (better than me too) - the vocals came from years ago when I found I could put fx on a microphone live on the pc when I had just discovered the software I use now - so I had her singing stuff to test it out with it recording in the background. And iIve sampled that singing about 5 times now… Hers is the soft singing later on in the track. |
