A true musician

Only a true musician can gather so much emotion and stunning melodies on his works for so many years and still keep producing. I’m talking about a man whose style is unique and consists on a mixture of epic, dream, uplifting and nostalgic melodies that can be described on a single word as Transcendental. He is the master and classical composer Geert Huinink.
I discovered Geert because I like to compile artist albums only with the best works of a single artist (productions / remixes / collaborations) and after some time I came up with this cd which is only based on my personal taste and 80 short minutes for such a fantastic producer (It was hard to left some great tunes like the ones behind Dawnseekers or the Magik Musik remixes)
Geert Huinink : Trancendental
1 Photon Project - Enlightenment
2 Twenty Something - Sugar Rush
3 Twenty Something - Natural
4 Photon Project - Illumination
5 DJ Tiësto - Magik Journey
6 Sister Bliss - Deliver Me (Geert Huinink Mix)
7 Twenty Something - Mayflower (Greek Power mix)
8 Tiësto - Forever Today
Then I realized Geert is way ahead of some of the “big” producers but he is so underrated that I decided to make this “tribute” to one of the most musically talented producers in the trance scene. |

| So musicians that don't create emotionally-involved pieces and haven't been in the scene very long aren't true musicians at all? Are they merely posers? |

Please don’t get me wrong, I was just implying that Geert’s case can be explained by his musical background, I never meant to say it was a rule. |

In don't think so. He says that it takes a true musician to do that stuff. That doesn't exclude anyone else to be a true musician...
Anyway, I agree completely, those are all awesome tracks. Atleast the six I've heard =)
EDIT: hum.. guess I was kinda slow with the quote =) |

| that's such a fallacy... just because people can play an instrument well doesn't mean they are good at writing it too... |

True, but it usually follows through...people who can play instruments at an unbelivable level have some innate musical talent that could be translated onto paper more easily than people who cannot pick up a piano and just play.
It's too bad Geert Huinik doesn't get the recognition he deserves...as Tiesto's engineer, Tijs sure seems to have a big ass smile in a big ass spotlight which should be shared by some big ass contributions(Magik Journey, Forever Today, Suburban Train anybody?) |

He's not only a genius when it comes to writing big orchestra scores but he's diverse as well.

Geert Huinik should hook up with BT -- I mean, maybe they're already friends, I don't know. Tiesto and BT are so degrees of separation, eh?
Classical training adds a whole new perspective to doing music, as does immersion in other genres than the electronic ones, it helps diversify your scope and you see things from different angles. I don't know about Geert's musical educational background but I know I DID LIKE the beginning of "Magic Journey" a lot and I didn't know it was him, kind of obscure...
Like many budding remixers and producers, Tiesto benefited from watching others. Producer, engineer and composer Geert Huinink created the strings on Tiesto's "Magic Journey" (from In My Memory), but Tiesto also gained knowledge from Huinink's mixing process. "If you hear my old tracks, how it's mixed, it sounds all right, but," Tiesto trails off. "With most bedroom producers, like I used to be, [all the frequencies] just come out of the middle. And with a really good sound engineer, you can see the tones; they can place everything in that frequency curve so no frequencies really bother each other - like the kick drum and the bass line. For my music, the bass is the highest point in the curve, and then the other stuff, the vocals and the middle, are down a bit, and the hi-hats are more on the lower level."
