Doesn't matter. The problem with downloading music is when you download music that you wouldn't have otherwise bought. Everyone has a certain portion of their budget that they can devote to music each month, year, whatever. Once they've bought the music they can afford, if they then download additional tunes and play them on their CDJs, they are doing zero harm to the music industry, because they are downloading music that they wouldn't have bought otherwise.

Lets say i had no money, and just burned 1000 cds of mp3's would you change that post?
It is illegal to play thoes in a club, and yes downloading does hurt the industry..
What happends if the track is only on vinyl, and not cd??

You miss the point. If you have no money, you contribute zero to the scene. Whether you download or not is irrelevent.

Of course it is illegal to play downloaded music in a club. I agree completely. How does it hurt the industry? You make statements, but don't back them up.

Then someone who buys only CDs cannot buy this song. But I think you could have reasoned that out on your own. If there's a deeper meaning to that question then I don't see it.

right, i've got approx 2000-2500 CD's (95% singles/maxis)
although i am on a few promotional lists for Uk labels, i don't get all the latest tunes upfront.
So as you rightly said, i burn alot of CDR's with converted mp3's on so i can play the latest stuff. However, i always buy the proper CD release as soon as it comes out- Not just because im supporting the artist, but i'm a collector and like to have the real thing to show people and to treasure myself.
the tracks that don't come out on cd, and only vinyl... well fi there isnt a download service (like anjuna or armada have) i will only buy the vinyl if I really like the tune (i have about 30 vinyl). Alot of the time i only play out stuff on cdr because others want to hear it and im not all that fussed by it (includes set fillers). I don't want to buy every set filler. Therefore i still think even when i do play out CDR's i am promoting the track, and i'm not keeping it in my personal collection at all, and it just ends up in the bin 2 months later. Therefore i think im supporting the artists 100% as i can.
I refuse to buy music on a self delipadating format, which is completely outdated. Now the Cd revolution is here and you can pretty much do anything you want with a CD you cna with a vinyl, i see no need to pay for a heavy, overpriced, low capacity, un-durable format.
so yes, you are right to an extent, but careful how you word it as i know myself and few others were a bit offended buy it. Most titles are obtainable on the CD format on some label around the world, you just have to look hard! |

who on earth wants to buy fillers. But what happends if your a artist that produces a lot of these fillers. Such as dj remy, since i use his tracks in my sets as filler.
and obviousely my 1st post here was to the kid that said he downloads stuff and puts them on cds. |

1) i don't know about others on TA, i really can't comment. I know there a few big CD collectors on the board, the biggest being grimreaper as far as i know.
2) people with extensive expendable cash, professional DJ's and extreme EDM lovers will buy set fillers. If you're an artist that prodces lots of these... well try to to make something better, most people wont put alot of money into buying music, but when they do it's just for the anthems!
3) i have NO respect for anyone who just DL's music alone.

| These days, artists tend to have albums on CD, so even if you can't get tracks on CD single then you can get them on CD album. If an artist won't release their stuff on CD at all then they deserve for their music to be ripped and downloaded. |

so nu nrg deserve to have all their stuff downloaded?? I dont think all the m.i.k.e stuff is on cds. what about 3 drives before their cd came out? What about white labels, or promo stuff. Vandit releases not on sessions 1/2, or pauls albums? And im sure there are a lot more. What about chable stuff, i dont think he has cds out? |

| Well, I own tracks by Three Drives on plenty of compilations. I own Greece 2000 about 5 times, so I figure I've paid for the track plenty. And they aren't giving me much choice, if I want to hear their music without it being in the middle of some digital mix I can't really do anything other than download. |

Imo you deserve to get flamed for doing that. Especially when your sig says addicted to vinyl.
its not always the artists fault for not having their material on cds.
Thats why i chose vinyl over cd. |
