Tech Question about Dual Monitors

Is it possible to, with 2 video cards, hook up dual monitors to my computer?

I know there are video cards with dual monitor support, but I'm cheap, and don't want to spend any money on one :P

so, is it possible to do the same thing using two video cards? I.E. have one program running on one screen, and another on the other monitor?

thanks

no, cause you'll need a special video card to tell the computer waht to put on what monitor, you could try using a program called duelmon or somthing, i forget, search download.com for it, but i doubt it'll work with 2 video cards.

i didnt think you need two video card thingies to do that. i can hook up two monitors to my computer how it is.

You'll need a motherboard with built in video(and this means a good one) card. Then, buy something like a Radeon somethingsomethingsomething, and hook your second monitor up to that. Then, right click on your desktop --> Properties --> Settings --> Advanced --> OpenGL(I think that's it. That's what I have for this rig.), and set the dual monitor hardware acceleration to whatever you need it at.

Why would you need stereo monitors?

say i'm using Cubase SX and Frooty, rewired, as an example. instead of minimizing/restoring etc. might as well put it on 2 different screens.

also for video editing, which my sister is a major in. she asked if i could do it for some nifty program she bought.

It depends if you want to just display the same stuff on both or differnt stuff.

right now i have a ty s3 prosavage DDR

it doesn't appear to be 'video card' could it be from the mother board?

One of the cards doesn't need to be onboard, and it is possible. The tricky part is getting Windows to recognize the different drivers, but once you get that set up, it works just fine.

Nowadays what you'll probably want to do (if you don't have an onboard card) is use one AGP card and one old PCI card. Might want to look around other forums to see who else has successfully done this to see what card you should get.

dont listen to these clowns.

dual monitors with two video cards is easy. the best way is to use to diffrent manufactures video cards.

like one nvidia and one ati. just install both drivers. Any version of windows since 98 will easily support this.

The only problem is most games do not support dual monitors. All you have to do is go into the display properties and turn one off.

using the extend my windows desktop to this monitor. (you will need to turn this on when you first set up the dual monitiors.)

on my work pc i have 2 nvidia cards in one pc running windows xp with dual monitors. At home i have one ati card with dual monitors support.

both setup works fine.

i run UltraMon as well http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/
Great program for dual monitor setups.
