Do Canadian people say "mate" just like in England?
That's so funny :stongue: weird, too :D
Here in the USA we don't have anything like that, we say "dude" or "pal"
You also spell words with a "u" (honour, vapour, armour, colour, harbour) and you use "s" instead of "z" (realise, tantalise).
You are WEIRD :toothless :stongue: :stongue: :stongue: :stongue:
Come on, both of our countries are in North America, we should have the same English :D |

I never hear people in Canada use the word 'mate' unless they are from Great Britain.
But every region has its unique words, I bet very few people can understand what people in the East coast are saying.. But I think most Canadians sound the same, I just never hear people say aboot like is often joked about... Definately guilty of 'eh' , buddy, etc..
But the US has much more startling differences in the language, the south has some of the hardest to understand english I've come accross. My buddies who live in San diego all sound like valley girls/boys, they always say dude and ass a lot!
I think the US probably has some of the most excentric accents and strange usage of the english language, Canada is tame in comparison. |

I never hear anybody use the word "mate"
I hear a lot of accents though cause the school I go to has soooooooooo many exchange students.
The best sounding accent is australian. I wish I had an australian accent. The hardest english to understand is prolly Irish and Scottish. Oh, and Georgian accent is cool too. |

nope, 'mate' is not a canadian word, mostly europeans and aussies use it.
canadian english (with its spelling) is actually the correct english. if you notice, we spell like brits, while americans have simplified spellings (color instead of colour, center instead of centre, etc) ppl also say canadian accent is different from american accent; americans tend to speak faster, in general.
thats about all, cept we say 'eh' now and then, and thnk gawd we can still understand each other :D |

i think the only canadians who say mate are people who have just got back from traveling in the UK or australia. thats what ive found anyway.
yes, we use "u" in alot of our words cos its better that way:p
Hey,
I'm not a lumberjack or a fur trader,
And I don't live in an igloo or eat blubber or own a dog sled,
And I don't know Jimmy, Sally, or Suzie from Canada,
Although I'm certain they're really really nice,
I have a Prime Minister, not a President,
I speak English and French, not American,
And I pronounce it "About", not "Aboot",
I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack,
I believe in peacekeeping, not policing,
Diversity, not assimilation,
And that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal,
A toque is a hat.
A chesterfield is a couch,
And it is pronounced Zed, not "Zee", Zed.
Canada is the second largest land mass,
The first nation of hockey,
And the best part of North America.
My name is Joe,
And I AM CANADIAN.
Thank-you.

...just in case any of you wondered about canada...
ps. to my american freinds, no offense intended:p |
