I am trying to get that famous acid sound from the muon tau. It seemed pretty good at first, but it's turned into a nightmare! All I do only makes it sound more cheesy and amateurish. Any advice on how to fix it?

the track

Am I spending too long on one chord? Are the drums too chaotic? Should I stop taking drugs?

first of all, you're using a dune(happy hardcore) style kick,i don't think this goes well with modern trance,i think what is really lacking here are decent use of effects, you've used a really hollowsounding reverb on the drums and other elements as well, this is what is making it sound really amateuristic,i'd try to either use different settings on the drums or no reverb, and for strings i'd reverb it more with a long release,as for the acidthingy, try some distortion and maybe add some more resonance, also putting delay on certain elements might fill up some gaps to make it more fullsounding.

hope this helps

Thanks for the advice. I will try a different kick and fix up the reverb.

BTW, I thought this was the right forum to get help in producing..?
hey cheggy
Well first of all, Muon Tau sucks balls, so that is your first problem. Secondly, try putting some overdrive distortion on it do give it some thinkness. Generally, the settings for a 303 lead are square wave, cutoff all the way back, tune all the way back, resonance all the way up, drive distortion full, decay close to full, but I don't know what that will do with Muon Tau.
