Markus Schulz starts us off with the Essentials! Markus Schulz leads of the
broadcast with his signature dark melodic sounds.
Deepsky returns to the Broadcast! Hailing from Los Angeles, J. Scott G and
Jason Blum-the team behind the Deepsky sound-are producers and remixers of
world-class music that has rocked dance floors and armchair listeners alike
for over a decade. The duo discovered their passion for electronic music in
the new wave and industrial music of the mid-1980's, and formed Deepsky in
1992 as the seeds of the American dance scene began to take root. During the
course of their 11-year career they have produced and remixed over 40 titles
and performed live shows at hundreds of clubs, raves, and music festivals
worldwide. From "Tempest", their 1996 single licensed as theme music to
MTV's "Amp", to 1997's worldwide smash hit "Stargazer ", to recent remixes
of Madonna , Paul Oakenfold, Seal and David Bowie the Deepsky duo have
firmly established themselves as one of the busiest and most desirable
production teams in America.
Deepsky's 2002 artist album, In Silico, is an eclectic journey through a
diverse array of styles, featuring driving rhythms, intricate melodies, and
meticulous attention to detail-hallmark qualities that fans have come to
expect from Deepsky recordings. The critically acclaimed album drew rave
reviews from Mixer, URB , Rolling Stone.com , Time Out New York , and a
number of other highly regarded media outlets. Highlights from In Silico
include the slamming first single, "Jareth's Church "; "View From a Stairway
", a beautiful work melding electronic breakbeats with classical guitar; and
"Mansion World ", a drum 'n' bass reworking of the single by Elijah Blue's
band Deadsy. With work appearing on three albums, numerous compilation and
mix CDs, and over 30 twelve-inch singles, it's no surprise that industry
heavyweights like Madonna , David Bowie , Seal , The Crystal Method ,
America , Paul Oakenfold, Curve, BT, Delerium and many others have turned
to Deepsky for production assistance and remix work. Deepsky's latest remix
endeavor is a progressive treatment of Madonna's "Hollywood" from her latest
album American Life. The duo also brought the Material Girl into underground
clubs in 2002 with their remix of "Die Another Day", Billboard's number one
selling maxi-single for 2002. The "Die Another Day" remix enjoyed widespread
praise from underground and mainstream DJs alike, earning Deepsky a
nomination for Best Remix at the 2003 DanceStar awards and winning the
Breakthrough Remixers of the Year award from Remix Magazine
Deepsky's studio work has earned them a great deal of industry respect, but
the duo are by no means a studio crew alone. Deepsky are considered by many
as torchbearers of American progressive music, having performed hundreds of
live shows and DJ sets at clubs and dance events around the world for the
past eight years. With Scott skillfully manipulating effects and
synthesizers and Jason relentlessly pounding away at electronic percussion,
Deepsky's high-energy live shows have become the stuff of legend, regularly
drawing dedicated fans from cities hundreds of miles away. In smaller
venues, the duo showcase their skills as highly proficient DJs, playing
extended tag-team sets of brand new Deepsky productions and fresh releases
from around the globe.
Deepsky are hard at work in their Los Angeles studio, crafting new tracks
for their upcoming full-length artist album, continuing work on new remixes,
and producing their own monthly radio show for XM Radio on XM80 - The Move.
The years ahead promise to be a remarkable era for electronic music as
Deepsky moves boldly ahead and further defines the progressive American
sound.
Perry O'Neil returns to the Broadcast! How do you know if someone is really
talented when there are so many ways to define it? When it comes to making
music and playing DJ-sets judging 'talent' is personal, like everything that
has something to do with creativity. If you are an agent or an A&R manager,
it takes a good sense of what may be successful to put faith in a talented
person. Armada has found its new star. Meet Dutch DJ/producer Perry O' Neil.
He is a rising star at Armada. Armada heard O' Neil's first productions in
the beginning of 2003 and signed the first tunes a couple of months later.
David Lewis, partner in Armada, got caught by the unique sound in both
Perry's productions and DJ sets so he wanted to work with him as a DJ as
well. Several of his tracks already have been played by DJs like Armin van
Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Markus Schulz, Matt Hardwick and Ben Lost.
Perry O' Neil is one of those guys who has been spinning for years, always
dreaming of the day on which he would stand in front of thousands of people
that came to see him. There were times that he hesitated about the sense of
continuing to pursuit a dream that seemed to hard to realize, but then he
was always reminded by himself of his undying love for dance music. The
style of Perry O' Neil differed from the most other demos they receive. No
wonder his first release on St. John vs Locust (A State of Trance) was a
success. But what is that unique sound Perry O' Neil masters? Perry himself
describes it as progressive melodic house. Perry: "It is not really trance
the way Tiësto and Armin van Buuren play it. My sound is a mixture of
different elements of different styles. I like melodic repeating lines, and
you can easily hear the tribal influences in my tracks. I always try to put
a certain energy in the track, like a kicking baseline or a break that is
full of tension which builds up to a climax. During the break I like to see
the audience with its eyes closed, lifting off from the dance floor, only to
return when the climax is there. In general you could say I am fond of
progressive melodic house."
Perry certainly shows he is having fun when he is behind the decks. Whether
it is at Winter Music Conference or at his upcoming gigs at Dance Valley in
Holland or Amnesia in Ibiza , with an attitude that, combined with his
undeniable talent, it may very well make him the next Dutch star.
