LOL yea I guess what he said was a much nicer way of saying that... just cuz she's "too girly" ie not singing like a stripper or a hooker... :P I guess you guys prefer the raunchy, panting, hooker vocals. Maybe next time... :stongue:

The melody switch before the lead vocals come in sounds great. The melody after that is great also, sounds "classicalish". I think the kick needs to be harder.

Add in some piano chords towards the end, just to add a final punch. Also maybe do a gate effect on some parts of the vocals and do some BT style vocal edits. That would be way cool. :toocool:

I actually think the whole track needs to be a bit louder... the only question I have is this...

A lot of trance songs tend to be amplified too much... they clip and get distorted because they're cranked too loud. Especially when MP3s are pulled from sets. Sets are almost never normalized... everything gets boosted. Is this desirable??

If not, how do I increase the volume without clipping the track? Where can I get a good utility to compress the sound a bit better without sacrificing sound quality or fidelity?

limit and normalize.. I recommend Sony Sound Forge.. a wave editor is invaluable when mastering.. it gives you a visual representation of the wave form..

i've been producing for four years, and sound forge is the ONLY software/hardware that I've been using since I started and continue to use.. it's THAT good ;)

decent-- but too much reverb on the vocals-- i cant even understand them

Like I said before, I'm using Adobe Audition (a wave editor)... I'm pretty new to audition so I'll check out some of the other options it has... I'm sure it has something similar to Soundforge's features..

The track IS normalized... just it still seems a bit quiet in comparison with other trance MP3s I have.

I'll try fiddling with the mastering a bit more... if anything good comes of it, I'll upload a new version.
alanzo
yes it's normalized but it isn't limited.. there is a big ass open space below and above the wave form on both channels.. and there are some little tiny peaks that are stoping it from going further.. you limit those peaks and then u can normalize more... plus your vocal is too loud which is inhibiting it even more..
DJ_Elyot
Wow... I just checked audition and there's this effect called "HARD LIMITING" and it does exactly what I needed it to do. Wow. Thanks a ton!! I'll upload a re-mastered version sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Also, is the vocal STILL too loud? I uploaded a newer version of the track since u made that comment...
alanzo
well if u look at the waveform... in the initial kick.. it's rather quiet compared to the end of the track.. that's becuase something u have playing at that time is too quiet.. or the beginning isn't loud enough.. but you're track should have even levels except for breakdowns..

for this song.. the vocal is causing it to be really load at the end which is keeping the entire track from being loud enough..

mastering is what seperates a basement track from a pro track..

OK I boosted the kick a tiny bit and gave the whole thing about 4 more dB with limiting so it doesn't clip... I uploaded it again so you should be able to give it another listen... lemme know if you think it's better.

PS: Are the vocals still too loud?
alanzo
sounds good.. but it would still benifit from a boost of treble.. try boosting the hihats on a 5db curve starting from 6khz

aside from that.. get some hardware so your productions can truely shine cuz this is good stuff.. I especially like the melody on the lyric..
