Clear intellectual stratification, while not true for real life, is very much a reality when you're 15. I had the same problem. The smart kids were interesting to talk to, and probably good for my personal development, as well as good to compete with academically. But they just weren't any fun to hang out with. So I hung out and smoked with the "cool" kids most of the time, but still kept on good terms with the smart kids in class etc...
Youd don't have to be uncompromiingly friendly to everyone, just make use of people's traits that are most useful to you. If you stop hanging out with smart kids, you probably lose a lot of potential for intellectual growth, if you only hang out with geeks, you won't get laid or get up to the kinds of mischief that 15 yera-olds are supposed to get up to. Learn to compromise.

I know exactly where this guy's coming from.
In my sound engineering program in college, there's pretty much 75% hip-hop/rap ppl, 15% rock/alternative, and 10% mixed electronica/house/etc. I must say that in one lab I've got .. there's 3 of us... me, and 2 guys into hip-hop....
when they started to compress and EQ the percussion... they churned out a hip-hop sounding drumkit for a track that was supposed to be country (just for educational purposes... we had no choice of the style of music to practice with).
I was amazed with their lack of perception for anything but bass.
I don't mean to be too harsh, but it's the truth! They even monitored at way too high a level for hearing... are they deaf or something? the Instructor came back after letting them do their thing (cuz I couldn't tolerate listenning to it so loudly, I care too much for my ears) and he complained that the mix was too bass-heavy and didn't fit the genre and that they monitored way too loud.

I will say though... some can handle and intellectual conversation, but you have to stoop to their way of speaking too, in order to get anything across.. UGH.. u know... the "yo, man, you can't be doin that "... whereas I'd rather just be normal and say "that doesn't sound good".
And yes, on the other end of the scale... some ppl who listen to hip-hop that I know are much more mature, but there are far less of them.

Call it harsh, but the trends and experiences I've had to this date don't tell it any nicer.

I have a bunch of friends I've come to know over the years that I can talk to in a very mature way... I'm definitely happier around them.

Word. Especially if they think Charlie's Angels is a "real" movie. And don't let them breed.

Therefore, by mathematical induction, you must be a hamburger.

I think you need to lighten up, put down the book, and get the girl to suck your dick.

It is my experience that as you grow older, you tend to end up in more matching environments, and the frustrations that you voice here disappears. For instance, if you know how to read books, you will probably go to high school then college and then university (don't know how the system works in Canada, I'm afraid). At each step, the "coolness" of reading books and discussing "deeper" aspects of life increases, and (this is the good part) there are still people to party with. If on the other hand, you do not like to read books, you will ache for the time you don't have to go to school any more, and then get a job - most likely with other people who despise "serious" conversations.

For some reason I get laughed at for listening to trance on its own, like without a magazine to read, through headphones.

Whats up with that?
