Very good release on the small Dutch based Wolfskuil imprint, maybe known to some of you from the first release (Joris Voorn - The way things appear).
The A-side features two tracks from P. van Dongen, with the A1 (Auburn) being my favourite.. A marvelous melodic, spacy offbeat techno track, quite similar in style to Steve Rachmad - Maluma, which is still my favourite track of the year up to now. I wonder if this will do well on a regular club dancefloor (especially here in Holland, where the harder styles of techno prevail), but it is quite a good listen.. And the track is of a style that I like to incorporate in my mixes as well, in order to provide a 'rest' from the usual 4/4 techno tracks.. I'd love to get my hands on more of this type of tracks.
The B-side offers two tracks from G.W.P. Gatzigristos, an unknown producer (at least to me), and are a bit more at the minimal side of the techno spectrum. Again, the first of the two, named '2nd Sim_003', does it best for me. A fairly minimal track, but with enough drive to keep it danceable, and with a break that will possibly tear up dancefloors.. This track could appeal to various styles of techno DJs imo.

I checked the two tracks you recommended. 2nd Sim 003 sounds like a nice tool to kick things off with, not much for a home listener though based on that sample.
Auburn sounds very nice with that bubbly synth, but I think this will probably be played more by progressive DJs than techno DJs, since your average techno party nowadays is all about the usual fast loop techno style. Still, should be a nice track to play in order to make room for some variation and a calmer moment in your set. I think more DJs should do this, since when timed right it can give a tremendous effect.
A good example of this is shown in a story from Maral Salmassi about a Luke Slater-gig that I read a few years ago. After pummeling the dancefloor for 2 hours straight he suddenly just stopped everything and eased in Carl Craig - Goodbye World. The dancefloor, which 30 seconds ago was a boiling mass of sweaty bodies in motion, just stopped dead in its tracks and gaped at Luke in amazement for several minutes, before he slammed X-Tront vol.2 back into the mix and the madness continued.
But I digress. Looks like another good release from Wolfskuil. Another label to watch in the future I'd say :) |

True :) It's really a dancefloor-oriented track (though I was already enjoying it so much in the store that people were asking me what track it was..)

That's the exact reason I bought it :) That usual looped techno style is good to hear when at a party, but it's not really the style I like to spin myself..
btw, already looking forward to Awakenings? |
