More energy?

Hey guys, what techniques do you use to give a track more energy? Especially I mean, giving the main body of the track more energy than the build-up so there's more of a sense of the track going somewhere instead of just staying in the same place.
Please, no smartarses telling me to select the bars I want, click Insert>Energy and put the slider to the desired amount, I'm not that much of a n00b :p
I use Reason btw, although I don't know if that's really important to the question. |

its about the groove, you have to sound the basic elements like kick snare/clap right.
through compression or whatever |

There's always more to a track than what you might hear at first. Just listen to any pro tracks, they have tons of little detail and secondary synths running under the obvious lead...
It's all in the layers :)
Oh, and when in doubt - add another perc line ;) |

by energy do you mean volume? or do you mean fast pumpin barthezz style energy?
well if you mean the volume, you're best bet would be to get a wave editor like Sound Forge and use a limiter/normalizer.. nothing compares to having a visual look at the waveform itself when adding FX.. |

I've added some more perc now, and there's 2 major synth layers - the main riff and another one that compliments it, playing the tonic note of each chord. Still not quite got that X-factor, the energy I want.
I guess I should try adding some subtle synth layers, coz as far as perc goes I'm starting to run out of space on the frequency spectrum... |

Try some bouncy stereo delay/reverb too.
Oh, and a rolling bassline... |

as already said... layer, layer, layer and layer some more.. and then add some more layering if needed.
like more then 1 bass, the percussions, more then 1 synth for the lead/string etc..... etc..... |
