| Anyone think about doing it? I think it would be kind of cool, to just stop talking for a month and give no explanation. |

| I wonder if you would find it difficult to communicate with speech after that long. |

was silent for a week during a meditation retreat. no talking except for practical stuff. basically no unnecessary communication. further (and this was more or less optional) i didnt listen to music, write, read, watch television, or in any way recieve unnecessary stimuli for the mind.
it was an interesting experience that i can recommend.
the first couple of days sucked. just wanted to leave. before the retreat started they told me that this is normal.
those thoughts passed. after that old stuff surfaced. since not much new input was given to the mind it started "eating on itself" by bringing up old stuff.
after 2-3 days of that it passed as well and i was just really calm. just enjoying my silence. i was in that state for a couple of days before the retreat ended. by then i didnt really want to start talking again. it was so peaceful not talking. for a period of time afterwards, i spoke less, hmmm maybe i still do. talking less crap anyway.
it is rarely necessary to talk. it can be nice, entertaining, whatever. but it is rarely necessary except in practical situations.
i recommend that you try staying silent a while. i dont know if you will experience it like i did, everyone is different, but i am sure it will be an interesting experience. do it. |

subuddha, thanks.
"i didnt listen to music, write, read" would be the toughest, but i think it would be good for me.
BTW, what kind of buddhism do you practice? |
