I have just bought a new monitor so now I own 2. I was only planning on using 1 but it hit me that i'd seen some people using 2 with FL, which I use. My computer only has 1 slot for a monitor in the back so could someone explain what I have to do? I'm using XP. |

Whats your GPU (Graphics Card)?

I use the blue VGA connector for the primary monitor (monitor on the left) and the white DVI connector for the secondary monitor (monitor on the right).
Because the cable from the secondary monitor won't fit into the DVI on the card, you have to use a convertor which usually comes with the card which looks like:

Software wise, XP has excellent support.
I use Ultramon:http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/

I don't think he has a dual head graphics card, but maybe. If you do, then get that adaptor. If you don't, you either need to buy a new dual head graphics card (easiest and most expensive way), or buy another cheap PCI graphics card for your other monitor.
And just a note, a GPU is not a graphics card, it is the name for the processor on the graphics card. Just like a CPU isn't your computer.. (uncontrary to what many people who have no idea about computers say).

shameless addition.... GPU stands for Graphics Processing Unit.. as I remember. :D :D :D :D :D
Yea man... dual-monitor setup rocks... especially for any production software.... Pro-Tools loox awesome in dual b/c the mixer goes on your right and the editing/layour goes on your left. in FL you can open up the Playlist and FX channels in the right, and have samples and step sequencer in the left.... i wish I had both monitors up, but I'm too lazy to buy the plug adaptor.:o :wtf:  :D :sadgreen: :tongue2 :toocool: :tongue3 :eyespop: :nervous:  :disbelief :clown:  :p :D ;) :D |

Running at that resolution is out of ratio... on an lcd that runs that it is in proportion, but for a CRT it is not. 1280x960 would be the correct ratio (4:3). Maybe you don't care, but if you work with graphics it can make a big difference. Everytime you see(or make) a square on the screen.. it really isn't.
Personally I run 2800x1050x32@85... :D

Do they have to be the same monitor, brand, size, screen resolution etc? Or can they both be totally different, like in my case? A 17" and a 15". |
