What is so special about Tiesto? What stands out about him, and what's so unique about him???? He's just like any other trance dj. There are so many dj's out there that are much better. I have friends who have more skills than him!

Someone please tell me why everyone makes such a huge deal about him?????????????????
Boomer187
he knew the right people, produced the right songs, and played out perfectly when he needed to.

its not about skills in this game unfortunately, or else we'd have a lot more djs to listen to.
Miss Julia
Ok, so he knew the right people, became famous, blah blah blah....

Now, after 2 years of being #1, people STILL make a huge deal about him! What a joke!!!!!!

probably the same phenomenon which made brittney spears popular

Tiesto is Tiesto
As Ferry is Ferry
And Armin is Armin...

A lot of DJs say they play like these DJs, have been influenced by these DJs, etc....yet, they just don't know how to bring the style of energy these DJs bring. DJs like these each bring their own type of energy and vibe. There are a lot more DJs who do this ((From Digweed to MarcoV to J00F)), but I'm just using these as an example

I don't know. It's hard to explain. I've just heard many DJs out there try to imitate these DJs and fail miserably...and in the end, all those DJs sound the same.

To sum it up, DJs like Tiesto, Digweed, Ferry, etc each has their own style and follow their own path in what they play. That makes them unique and makes listening to them individually a great experience.

yeah thats true dave but i think the question is why tiesto is apperantly so much better than the rest
when IMO he isnt
DaveT
Hmmm

Let me put it this way...

Tiesto is the only DJ I've ever seen live that has made a crowd jump so hard, the needle jumped. And the crowd caused it it to jump four or five times. I would say Tiesto knows what to play to get the crowd going. :)

It was amusing. Tiesto was laughing. :)

I agree. I endured his 3-hr. + set on Sunday, and all I could think to myself at some points were: "When the is this going to end?"
All in all it was a pretty decent set.. but far from impressive! I saw Ferry for 1 hr. + @ Coachella.. and he literally knocked my socks off. I also couldn't help but to close my eyes during certain moments throughout Tiesto's set. And I just despice how Tiesto enjoys playing music for himself. What the is that? Isn't the point of being a DJ / playing music for others playing music in which the audience enjoys? I respect and believe Tiesto is very talented as a muscian, producer, and remixer.. but when it comes to him as a DJ: He is very overrated! In the 25+ tracks he played @ Giant.. I can honestly say I enjoyed about 10. Moral and summation of the story: Don't buy into all the hype!

Ummmm, I've seen MANY dj's that can make the crowd jump hard like that too. But to make the needle jump...? I think the set-up must have been pretty ty or something. And about your other post (where he creates a journey in his set), ya that's true, he does.... but so do other dj's.

Yeah, but Tiesto had played at the same place before with the same exact setup and no skipping them. It was quite nuts. It was on a Sunday night and it was entirely madeup of big Tiesto fans. Was an awesome awesome vibe.

Oh, and did I mention that the decks were even hanging from cables and not on table or anything? So the whole building was having to bump to cause the decks to bump :)

I strongly doubt that the needle jumped because of the crowd dancing. I'm sure it was a fun night, and everyone was dancing their asses off, but realistically, if the tables were hanging off cables, then I really doubt the needle skipped because of people dancing on the dance floor.

The first two times I saw it I thought it was the records skipping, but then I was told it was the needle jumping and to keep an eye on the decks and you could see it happening...and sure enough, it happened. The whole decks would jerk a tad and cause the needle to slightly go off course. Plain as day.

They moved the decks to a different part of the club where it was setting on tables for awhile after that, too.

The decks are back to their old position and I think they are using a new cable setup.
