Ok... well i DJ obviously, and i do a little bit of producing... But what i want to ask u guys is... Is it possible to be a top super star (eg... PvD, Picotto) pro DJ withought producing?? As in Could Paul Van Dyk be Paul Van Dyke without "For an Angel"?..... could Paul Van Dyk be Paul Van Dyk without producing any tracks at all... thats what i wanna know... if ya's know what i mean???

I thought about it too the other day, and I've come to a conclusion that PvD would be no one without his productions. All great Djz MUST produce music. Producing is a jumpoff to Pro-Djng imo. When you produce a cool track, then everybody knows it and you will get gigs in big places and get much $$ and fame :)

Lets take Ferry Corsten for an example. Firstly he produced some top tunes an after that he got into djjng...

Yes almost all the big dj's produce trackz, by them selfs. That is just a way to promote yourself. And about PvD, he wouldn't be as big as he now is without is own productions.

Judge jules doesremixes, and works with others to produce music, and also does compilation albums like clubbed. But he doesnt produce on his own.

So team up with others if u want to be huge as well

Well the proof's in the pudding. Can you name any big-name DJ who hasn't dabbled in production?

I think, if you want to become a big-name dj, you have to get your name out there, and the best way to do that is by producing music of your own. Big name DJ's aren't necessarily better than any of us technically or in terms of track selection (though I'm assuming that most of them are) but they simply have the name. You could compare identical sets between PVD and a no-name, and listeners will invariably tell you that the PVD one kicked arse, but they're less likely to say that about the "no-name" set.

It's unfortunate, but that's just the way it is. :)

but there is a lot of new djs, who r getting to the top fast, like fergie, he has a resondancy at gods kitchen, and he aint that much older than me, wella few years. I think u just have to be in the right place at the right time, but if u r good, u will get there.

There r a lot of djs out there now, but there is still a need for top ones
