Hey i'm getting ready to register for my classes this year online, and i really want to take some sort of introductory class on web design. i don't plan on majoring in it, but since i like the internet a lot and have good ideas for personal websites and stuff, i want to learn html and all that. what kind of course should i take?
there's intro to graphic design or intro to multimedia ... and a bunch more.

Personally I would not take a course in Webdesign, or graphics because technology is changing everyday , i presume they will teach the basic HTML , then JAVA , that prob takes 12 months, then your gonna need PHP / SQL / ASP , which once you have learnt everything there is gonna be another language , If you are good at self tuiton i would recommend you do a free course at home check Sitepoint they have everything to do with courses setting up web servers , IIS , programming at all levels. I only know all this because i have been down the road you are planning and i wish i did it all from home. these sites like Sitepoint have forums and your answer to any questions will probabily be answered in 5 mins. end of the day its upto.
Grahpic design is a big area, if you mean graphics by software like photoshop and that i recommend you do the same learn at home and sit an exam online from www.vue.com or www.comptia.com . If you post your course details ill tell ya if its worth it. I did the networking and windows NT Server , then 2000 server came out , now windows server 2003 is out, and its moving towards WiFi and Remote servers , too much to take in unless your einstein or into the subject all your life. |

that's the thing though...i'm not very good at learning computer stuff on my own. i'm just not very good with computers. i can do the basic stuff (like post on here and serf the web). i have a hard enough time signing up for picture hosting and posting pictures. i always need someone to explain it to me like i'm 2. it's not my strong point, i'm better at english and writing and stuff like that, but i want to learn.
here is the link to the course descriptions....scroll down a bit ad click on "Course Descriptions" and go to page 46 in adobe acrobat.

Depends on the quality of your teachers I guess.
Most of the stuff I learned about web design came from the "internet for dummies" sites. Then I'd look online for information on how to do other things.
Graphic design on the other hand, may teach you some visual skills for how to make stuff look better.
:)
(I have a degree in it, but ended up doing special effects for a living - go figure! ;) ) |

If you can obtain a copy of Adobe photoshop with all the filters its really easy to get a picture and try different effects on it. There is also a GREAT CD set that has HUNDREDS of lessons with full color videos and a guy talking and showing you how to do everything on it that is excellent if you can obtain it as well.
It was so easy my mom could use it. |

| and htmlgoodies.com can handle your basic HTML setup. Obtaining copies of webpage interfaces that use GUIs is also suggested for beginners. |

yea but my laptop broke, so i don't have a computer at home now. the screen is all messed up and it's like $700 to replace it. i really can't spend money on a new computer right now, i'm about to get a car this month and i would rather buy tables.
i think i'm gonna take this other class instead.
"Introduction to Recording Studio Procedures"
that will be fun:)
thanks for the info everyone... |
