Computer Problem- Error message when using backup utility on XP

ive got a virus and before i start editing registry keys, im trying to backup the system state as recommended by symantec. now when i attemt to create a backup, i get an error that the backup is aborted due to a catastrophic error. anyone got any ideas how to sort this?...or should i just go ahead and folow the instructions of removal without backing up?

Burn your most important files and trance songs onto CD's as data files, and then run a v-scan like , reformat, destroy the HDD with acids, relocate your house, change your name, buy an entirely new PC, and put your files back on there.
Or, you could just back up your files on CD's and then run the v-scan. |

Id say your first mistake was using Symantec ;)
I agree. Archive all important files off your computer and reinstall. |
