no, they don't. they are told by the higher ups what sells and what doesn't in american hip-hop with a few exceptions for those who have autonomy in their artistic work.
its the marketing of materialism and "star enquirer" in a nutshell. case and point , 50 cent. Imo, he's a lying sack of sh*t when he said hip=hop needs a shakedown. when all he was doing was being a phony poser trying to stir the pot with ja rule, pretentiously. and being shot nine times is a load of bull. his music has got no soul and tells diddly all about his life. or rather how could he if he didn't live it in such a way he claimed to the media? he's just another regurgitation of a wannabe gangster with bling, objectified sexuality of women, and money.
whats with eminem and d12 phase of the cheese whiz now anyways? ahah
jay-z is alright to me. he's a trendsetter, heaavy hitter, and marketer. somewhat lost touch with his grassroots, which he realizes in his retirement.
Nas - the few worthy who isn't corporatized. :happy2:
K-OS - same as Nas
Kyprios - what happened to him? I liked his video. he made fun of corporatism in hip=hop. maybe that's why. :D

good post cept 50 is but the reason why he doesnt rhymne about his life is because nobody cares abt that side of him they just want to hear about the trouble he causes..i say next album may have lil more meaning |
