Is there anyway i can prevent microsoft messenger from turning on, my sister insists on downloading files from total strangers, and the time has come to stop her having access to it. I cant prevent her from using the computer totally. So i need to either be able to change the properties of messenger so it won't start up.
Or change some internet connection setting so it wont start up, any changes need to be reversible, as i can still use my computer responsibly :) |

delete msn icon from start menu and desktop
before doing that copy it to a map somewhere in program files and hide it..
the actually folder of msn, rename it or move it somewhere deep and hide it also
best way i can think of.
if she knows how to use search method , you probably have to rename also. |

| Burn the folder and all the files for it on a CD, and delete it. Use the CD when you want to use it. |

| Make your firewall block its access to the net. |

| or just delete the whole damn program off your computer, thats what i did, msn, i hate that program |

use ur firewall to ur advantage, block it from connecting to the msn server, thus disabling login, which renders the program useless
also on some firewalls u can set a password so ppl cant modify ur settings, i dont need to set this password as this computer is mine :) |

Actually do you mean thouse "Messanger Service" pop up windows that talk about making you member bigger and stuff? Thouse arn't anything to do with MSN Messanger it's actually a windows thing which for some gay reson microsoft sets to on automaticly (it's ment for networks). Basicly people just bulk sned to every IP one after the other and sometimes your IP comes up.
If so if you have XP or 2000 you can turn it off. (dunno how to/ if you can on 98)
Go into admin tools in the control panel then services then find "Messanger" then "disable it" thats differnt to stopping it btw (it'll turn on again at startup). |
