hell yeah! its worth it if you get a chance to take a ride in a MiG-25!! max speed of somewhere around Mach 2.8 from memory!! thats FAST!! :eyes: :eyes:

would become an expensive trip pretty quickly if you wanted a go in a coupla of the hotrods the ruskis got to offer, Mig-29, -25, Su-27/Su-30

wonder how many G's you would feel pulling each of those moves. and the last one sounds especially fun, taking the controls!

-edit- all the prices on the various russian adventure sites are all in USD. those red commies sure picked up the capitalist train of thinking pretty quickly!

sif not fly in Australia's airforce. 68 operational F-18 Hornets!

but the budget only allows 1 plane to take off the ground twice a year. but wait theres more!!!! the australian army get to fire 1 test missle on training runs... .THATS RIGHT YOU HEARD IT HERE...
1 TEST MISSILE!!!! woww what a deal

join the army reserves, and let them make a man out of you
(note gurners will die when the g's start cramming your ribcage bahaha)

Couple of things I might add to the discussion in my interloperness.

1: Helen, you said the Farnsborough show is in 2002 :wtf:

2: The harrier does not rotate the engine itself, it rotates 4 exhaust nozzles (2 per side) for VSTOL. Another odd harrier fact, it requires several hundred gallons of water be carrier on board for cooling when in Vertical flight.

3: The A-380 has to actually fly before it can change the way people travel.

4: Discovery Wings is one of the best channels ever. Wings of the Red Star is one of my favs.

5: Airshows are cool, though I have not been to one since I was a little kid. I know I went the first year the USAF Thunderbirds flew the F-16 which was 1983.

6: Flying in a Mig29 would be pretty cool....it is was the last non-FlyByWire fighter jet produced in the USSR and has a thrust to weight ratio that makes it able to fly at an insane angle of attack without stalling (I believe it is like 80 degrees).

7: Planes are cool. (should be #1)

Yeah it is the only plane ever built to be able to do that.. I think it was called the cobra manoeuvre.
funny how this thread has taken a sharp dive wayyy off topic.
but yes. planes are indeed cool!

ps. MrS. was it you that made it??? haha i found it on google. load of people are currently using this on atm. GOOD STUFF

Actually, the SU-37 can fly at an angle of attack of like 105 degrees, but it has thrust vectoring so that doesn't really count lol.

I think the F-22 can theoretically fly forward while past straight up as well...thrust vectoring is the coolio.

You found it on google? Damn.....I guess phlotron has been using it as an avatar on here for close to a year so it wouldn;t surprise me that there are a lot of people using it. And I checked it in image ready, it is the same one lol.

MrS (the american interloper)

EDIT: p.s. This was my 1000th "counted" post on TA

yeah actaully i think it was the su-37

Shame on you for dissing the A380!!! :D It will fly and it will be a great aircrfat though the fact of the matter is, it will NEVER fit more then 650-odd people on it! One of my friends works for QANTAS and her jobs been trying to determine the optimum seat layout for QANTAS's A380's for the last few months and they wont have more then about 600 on them. Airbus's quote of "up to 850 seats" was based on floor area but because of the cylindrical shape of the fuselage, you cant use the majority of the area on the top floor (unless your about a 4 ft midget or you dont mind lying down for the entire trip! :D).

Good ol airbus - apprently dodgy as in this respect but you cant beat the price!!

Beemer
let's get back to basics for a sec.....

does anybody else still find it amazing that something that big and heavy can actually stay in the air?? no matter how many planes i see in the air, every single time i'm blown away that it actually manages to stay up there.....amazing!!

and as a side note to the girls....don't ever date a pilot!!! my father is one, so i've got lotsa first-hand knowledge of the fact that NOTHING will ever come between a pilot and planes....not even women....the almost pathological love of a pilot for their planes is almost scarey!! *lol*

haha umm thats just a little naive, really men dont let women get in between anything they hold dear :P . :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip:
