What's it cost to launch a club?

I'm not talking about any club, i'm talking about the massive, spectacular kinda club that would be one of the best, if not flat-out THE best in the city. What kind of an initial investment are we talkin here and how would it break down?

Magicorp Entertainment, the parent company of the soon-to-be opened Lucid here in Toronto is in the process of raising $8 million to cover costs of opening the club here, if that's any indication.

i wonder the same question... but for the smaller sized clubs... like sound emporium or system soundbar??????

Alright, so how exactly would the $10,000,000 break down? What percentages would go towards design, audio, lights, advertising, etc? After seeing the concept drawings for Lucid, i'm not surprised they're spending that much. But i doubt Guv would cost more than half as much! If you think about it, it's pretty damn simple inside.

I disagree. I think you'd be surprised out how much it would cost to open a club of Guvernment's design. Take into account the Kool Haus, Skybar etc. Sure he's saving money on location since its not in prime clubland but the Guvernment runs some pretty expensive stuff in there. Lights, lasers, sound system. Keep in mind that the opening costs alone are enough to make many a club-entrepeneur shy away from making their dream a reality. There's so many little things that you wouldn't think matter but add all those many costs up and your looking easy at $8-10 million for clubs like Guvernment, Lucid etc.

i don't think that the guvernment opened with that many room at first... your goal is to buy a big building and with time, invest the money you make from your main room to expand the complex.

So you don't burn yourself by opening a big complex with lots of rooms and fail attracting people. (novelty wears off fast in clubland).

Right across from the Eaton Centre is an old building...it's gorgeous and amazing and it's for lease I think...can you imagine if someone decided to turn it into a nightclub...it would be INSANE! Although I don't think the city will allow it :(

Likely the old Toronto Historical Society building? (With the dome on top?) If so, it apparently needs a TON of work in terms of building repairs, etc. (which explains why it has been sitting there empty for so long).

Also can't forget about operating cost, licences/permits, security, insurance, property taxes, building maintenance. There's more to it I woul imagine.
