I support the conservatives because they offer the best solutions for me and i feel are the most trustworthy of all of them. Just like poor people and idealist will vote for the NDP because they offer the best solutions for them. Thats how politics work.

^^^

That's unfortunately typical of this "me" generation. Oh, he's cutting taxes for middle income people and students. Great...screw caring about what else Harper does or does not stand for because it doesn't affect YOU?

How short sighted and selfish is that outlook? I agree, many people vote that way. It's kind of sad.

I'm voting Liberal because in addition to being relevant to me, I think Martin's platform is the best for our country as a whole and fair for ALL people, not just the majority (as Harper seems to think is best).
Jayx1
And im voting Conservative because i dont believe that stealing, patronage and arrogance are good for the country. Fiscal stability, a sound policy, and diplomacy is.
MarkT
a sound policy? you must be kidding...his military spending is irresponsible. his tax cuts are popular, but irresponsible.

You have Martin, a former finance minister, putting out a much more realistic budget, and Harper can honestly stand there and claim that his is responsible? Why wouldn't Martin just put forth something similar if it was so financially sound?

It just doesn't make sense at all. The only reason Harper has the support he does is due to a misguided backlash against the Liberals. People don't like Harper's policies so much as they feel "betrayed" by the Liberals.

I'm sorry...that's not a good enough reaoson to vote in another party who will take us backward instead of forward.

Harper would have sent troops to Iraq...he said it...he now denies it. That is not "diplomacy", that is PANDERING to the U.S. and it's contemptable. Diplomacy is getting along...it's not kissing ass. Tony Blair should have realized the difference too.
k0nk
^ And you actually believe that the conservatives will be fiscally stable? :haha: All governments waste money. As for diplomacy? I have no problem with the diplomacy we have had over the last few years.

EDIT: meant for Jayx1

I haven't followed the election campaign fully, but I figured that I should educate myself before I make a decision that might have an effect on our Country in the near future. After listening to the debate for a few minutes, I came to the conclusion that all the party leaders were not very strong leaders.... nothing like Trudeau!!!!

But I'm not going to make my decision based on how one conducts themselves during a debate, politics is more than that. Eventhough I was bored by the debate I listened on and off. My attention was caught by the arguement by Harper, saying that his tax cuts to those with salaries between 35 000-75000. Yes this may be good for me and many other Canadians, however there is a large number of families and individuals that are struggling. What this does is just perpetuate that cycle of the rich becoming richer and the poor becoming more poor. I think Martin made a good arguement when he said that low income families will not be able to afford to use services and receive Income Tax Rebates.... this is so true.

I know all too well, since I grew up in a low income family. It is very difficult to get anywhere, to move up the social ladder. I beleive in having a strong social service committment to help those who are less fortunate to hopefully instill some hope. I honestly think that the new Conservative Party will not do that. Therefore I know that I won't be voting conservative.

Now to make a final decision .... I'm trying to use a strategy that is going to be best in my riding. Anyone want to educate me more?
MarkT
you've already made the first step...deciding not to vote Conservative ;)

if you're really set on doing what's best for your riding, look up your candidates and do a bit of research on their previous work in the community. I'm sure they and their staff will be more than happy to talk to you too.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check into it. I had a discussion today with my roommates. One wants to vote NDP and the other voting conservation.

I read what you said about the "me" generation and kind of told one of my roommates that he was thinking selfishly. He was like commending the conservatives because it's the party that is good for him. I told him he was thinking selfishly and should be thinking about those who require the services.

He did make some good points, however not enough to convince me. I'm lucky that it didn't turn into more drama, it was actually a very adult debate. No one got mad or disgusted with each other.

I guess it pays to read over before you send your reply.

I meant conservative, not conservation.... and what is it with the valleygirl talk, "like umm" LOL

Thank god I gots me a edumication!!! LOL

I was watching the National on CBC and they mentioned that Brian Mulroney left us with a 43 Billion dollar deficit and if it wasn't for Paul Martin giving 7 straight balanced budgets then we wouldn't have the most sound finances of the G8...So in all fairness the previous Conservatives almost made us bankrupt and even though I'm not voting for the Liberals OR the Conservatives, I do acknowledge what Martin ( & NOT Chretien) did for Canada..

I do appreciate your views though Jay...keep it up;)

I'm just glad I have my right to vote in private.

Did anyone see the new Conservative add after the National tonight?

It was actually a great add, the reason I say so is because it was funny.

If you haven't seen it, the add went kind of like this.

Starts off with some guy sitting at a desk with stacks of Canadian currency. The guy grabs the bills, crumples them and then throws them into a waste basket. A maid then comes and grabs the waste basket and throws the crumbled up money into a larger garbage. This garbage. Then a blurb flashes..... Sponsorship Scandal ....1/4 billion dollars.... That was the funniest part. The add kept going and got carried away, and lost it's appeal, but I have to admit it was a funny add.

BUT, I'm still not voting Conservative... way to waste your money Harper, what did Belinda pay for that one? LOL
