Trance in general

I was having a conversation with a friend and I asked him if he wanted to come to go to a trance event and he told me that he did not like trance that it was too cheesy. First I thought that he was thinking of DJ Sammy but I remembered that other people that have come to Gatecrasher with me have said that it was cheesy. So do you recon that trance compared to progressive and drum and bass is cheesy?

I guess i can see how it can be cheesy, but i think on some level trance is more emotional and its sound and synthy riffs impacts you in a unique way. That makes trance more than just music. Its the feeling a guess.

Your friend obviously has poor taste.

You obviously know what the good stuff is.

(and btw, i can see how your friend could say its cheesy, but really, the same could be said about most genres)

Well compared to Drum and Bass trance is of course cheesey... Not that thats some horrible statement or an insult. Dj Sammy is the cheese of the trance world yes, but Trance is the cheese of the EDM world. IMO.;)

Your friend is obviously a dillusional twat

I suggest buying new friends :)

No. But it is a fine line sometimes. There is a ton of crap trance out there, but good trance is still alive and well (though perhaps recovering from sickness in 2003).

I think if the song has emotion and touches you in a personal way (at least these are the feelings I get when I listen to my collection, which is including much more prog these days too :)) then it ain't cheese. Cheese songs are just a bunch of sounds mashed together, that eventually sound like crap by the end of the song :)

Mr.Mystery
That is exactly what being an elitist ass does to a person.

well you can't just dis an entire genre like that, because I can't just say that all Rock is because I don't like rock at all, you still have to realise that eventhough you might not like a genre it still has quality productions and you have to respect that
