When did remixing old songs get totally out of control?

The curse upon the dance music genre is the remixing of pathetic tunes that weren't even good the first time around.

What I want to know is, who is responsible?
When will it stop?

And, how many bullets is required to eliminate the boogy pimps?

it will not be out of control until the entire collection of Jethro Tull's music has been remixed. Locomotive Breath (Hard Trance Remix)? ohhhhhhhhh yessssssss

Until people stop gobbling them up.

and the boogy pimps you can kill with three well placed bullets to the head, but thats only if you stole the helm of accuracy from the wizard on level two.

I frown when classic rock tunes and stuff are remixed/remade with the new producer not really having a passionate knowledge of what made the music come about in the first place. My problem is not with commerciality as it is a music BUSINESS -- but when the almighty dollar$ come first and foremost and all too often are more of a driving motive than they should be, that's when I have a problem. More respect needs to be paid to those who crafted these wonderful songs that came before.

Of course, I often don't know the full stories so I can't fully judge, and music is subjective. But something that irked me for awhile was the rampant sampling of old jazz records for drum-n-bass and house which came across to me as very samey and not terribly personable. For every Moby and Layo & Bushwacka! and Photek (who I feel have both done respectful sampling or tips of the hat to the old vanguard) there are many who would be shamefully content to skin off an old tune and wear it like a Hannibal Lecter skinsuit without contributing their own uniqueness :(

Still, I am pleasantly surprised when I discover that a "new" track is in fact a rework of something older -- i.e. BT's "Dreaming".
